We stayed here in May 2013 for 5 days. We really loved this hotel! Reading the other reviews influenced out choice of the hotel. This is why we use Trip Advisor, isn’t it? But then, being there we involuntarily tried to find some reasons to contradict all the other reviewers and we could not find anything. Rooms are clean and spacious, nicely decorated, with a little kitchenette in the room. To add to this complimentary breakfast, WiFi and parking, complimentary use of lounges, umbrellas and towels if going to the beach, free shuttle service to the beach (we did not use it, but found it as an excellent addition), excellent staff, very kind and polite, and I can still continue. If in Carlsbad, chose this hotel. It’s worth it! « less

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights (4/26-4/29). Wow - what an excellent choice we made. The staff was pleasant and helpful and very accommodating. Our suite was wonderful. Nice sitting area when you first come in with a love seat and chair and table, large t.v. and desk with chair and a mini-kitchenette area (micro, refrig, coffee and sink). Nice sized bathroom which was very very nice and a very large bedroom area with a king-sized bed. The closets were large and there was a nice large safe in one of the closets. They give you plenty of hangers. I couldn't think of anything they missed and it was very very clean. There was a very nice breakfast in the morning set up and 3 areas with tables to sit at. They also have bags and essentials along with coffee to grab and pastries if you want to grab and go. There are 2 restaurants on the premises. There is also a pool and hot tub. The hotel is 3 blocks to the beach and a short drive to the town and the highway is a block away so the location is fabulous. I would absolutely recommend this hotel. We were very very pleased with our choice. « less

Our stay was nice. For families with small children I wanted to mention that not all rooms, if many at all, have bathtubs. I don't know how I didn't pick up on this but didn't realize until we checked in and when we called to the front desk to find a room with a tub there were no rooms available to switch to "in our category." We were staying one night so we made the best of it, but this wasn't ideal, especially if it were a longer stay. A bit of a deal breaker in the future. Our bathroom sink plugged up at one point for no reason, but the water facet got so hot I was able to run the hot water through to get it going. The hotel and room decor is clean and updated. Front desk was very nice. There were no noise issues, even being on the first floor near the lobby and restrooms. Pool was adequate. Having a microwave in the room was very nice, as well as the extra sink. Many hotels have fridges, but the microwave was an added bonus so I didn't have to bring a bottle warmer, etc. Milk and cookies were a nice treat, but go early in the hour as it seemed that some guests weren't very perceptive that there are other guests staying in the hotel that would also like enjoy a treat. Breakfast was a decent variety of eggs, potatoes, bacon, pastries, cold cereal, fresh fruit, juices, etc. Overall it was a fine stay. « less

We had booked our stay for our 10 year anniversary at La Costa resort in Carlsbad based on recommendations from friends. After reading Trip Advisor reviews, however, we changed our plans and decided to stay at West Inn & Suites. So many great reviews, right? Well, this place IS great and there were so many things we liked about it from the service I got from Nicolette in arranging flowers for my wife, to the black towels they place in the bathroom for removing make-up (my wife is a make-up artist for Laura Mercier and REALLY appreciated this), to the delicious fresh strawberries at the breakfast buffet, to the cool BLACK toilets in the bathrooms on the first floor (that was a first!), to the proximity to a beautiful area of the beach. So why not 5 stars? It would have to be the location. While it's only a couple of blocks from the beach, don't think you'll have a nice view of the beach. When we drove up and saw that there was a power plant right between the hotel and the beach, my wife and I both said "Oh". It was like something out of the Simpsons although it wasn't a nuclear power plant...lol. Not exactly what we were expecting for our 10 year anniversary but other than this one distraction, I can say nothing bad about this wonderful hotel. So, I guess the question is - do you want to stay some place with perhaps a nicer view and surroundings, like I imagine La Costa would have had, but outdated decor or do you want a clean, beautiful suite Euro boutique style hotel with excellent service, walking distance to the beach....which is just past the power plant. « less
