This visit to Budapest was a package that included flights and hotel accommodation. The Korona Hotel is very conveniently located overlooking Kalvin Ter where you can catch a tram with connections to all parts of the city requiring minimum walking (very important for the elderly). Our room overlooked the square where we could watch Budapest people going about there day's business. The receptionists and the porters were friendly and efficient, with little queuing. However the availability of e.g. Budapest Cards and concert tickets over the counter would be welcome. The ability to book guided city tours, with collection from the hotel lobby, was appreciated. While the room was adequate there could have been a little more wardrobe and shelving space. A particular bonus was that the room was completely soundproof so that there was no problem sleeping. At breakfast there was a huge choice and we always felt well set up for the day. It was however disappointing to see how little the dining facilities were used in the evening, but nearby there were restaurants serving typically Hungarian meals. We hope to return to this hotel to see more of the sights in this beautiful city. « less

Made reservations the same day I was to arrive in Budapest and the chance I took by leaving it for the last minute worked better than expected. I checked other reviews here in Trip Advisor and helped me made my choice much easier. I checked in after 3pm on a Friday and it was all very smooth. They had my reservation handy and everything was in order. The city tax was the only thing I was not sure about (I knew there would be an extra charge but did not know how much). I believe I ended up paying 4 euros per night for said tax. Our room (Standard room with double bed) was on the smaller side but with all the basics you need for a room you will use just to leave your belongings and rest at night. The bed was comfortable enough but the pillows were on the harder side. The tv was the smallest flat screen tv I have seen but good enough to watch the news as you are getting ready to head out. The bathroom was also small but again, more than enough for a quick getaway weekend. The location is just perfect just a few steps away from pubs and restaurants and less than 10 minutes walk from the river. The breakfast was good (buffet style) but I do not know if I would pay for it again. They had 2 choices of scrambled eggs (the Hungarian style was great) and also boiled eggs. They had your cold cuts, cereals and yogurt options. Good variety of breads and pastries and all the tea and coffee you could drink. It was convenient to have it just a few floors down from my room, but the variety was not worth the price for sure. If I were to do it again, I would not include the breakfast and would try my luck elsewhere. Again, not a bad breakfast option, just pricey for what it was. We walked out at night and thanks to the great location it was not hard to find a good restaurant, pub or access to the metro (Astoria, I believe was the nearest M2 station). The pool was a good option for a rainy and slow afternoon. Nothing to brag about but good (not a deal-maker nor a deal-breaker). I am planning on visiting Budapest again and I will return to Hotel Mercure for sure. You just cannot beat the location and the reasonable price for a good hotel. « less

The hotel is brilliantly located to most amenities. The Metro is literally outside, this being Kelvin Ter. Don't worry about using the metro it is similar to other European cities. You are within a ten minute walk of the Central Market worth a visit, the Liberty/Freedom Bridge and of course the Danube. Also hop on hop off sight-seeing bus stops. The hotel reception staff are courteous however one of the bell boys is too eager to take your luggage. He is friendly but tries to insist that you won’t find your room without his help. Don't let this put you off it's not worth it as the hotel is good. Rooms and beds are a decent size, wardrobe space good for a five day visit. The rooms are clean and the bathroom. There is an option to be green and have your bed linen and towels cleaned daily or less often. We liked that. We booked for b&b so can't comment on food other than breakfast. This offers a good choice except for English breakfast tea, all other options available and coffee. We filled up on breakfast and then ate later in the day. Breakfast staff are friendly. The bar staff won't bother you and you are free to sit without a drink in the large bar area. Don't buy drinks in the hotel unless you don't mind paying over the odds and service charge stuck on but this is the same as any other hotel. We didn't get a chance to use the swimming pool. Overall we reccommend staying here. « less
