I've stayed at the Palomar in Dallas on multiple occassions over the years. This hotel never disappoints. The staff is always very friendly and accomodating. Most recently I was there for 4 nights and stayed in a King Spa room. The room itself felt a little tight. It was a corner room and the layout was just odd with only two small windows. The bathroom; however, was enormous and had a jetted tub and a separate large shower. Personally, I like the Executive King and Luxury King rooms the best. The bathroom isn't nearly as large but the room feels larger and you have a gorgeous large windows. The hotel could stand to update a few things such as their TVs and their ipod dockstations as they are both very dated at this point. My TV was functional but the ipod station was not.
The hotel is conveniently located right across the street from the SMU campus. You can walk to Starbucks or campus within minutes. The Katy Trail is a fantastic jogging trail that is just quick walk from the hotel. The trail is quite the place to be on a gorgeous Saturday morning. The Hotel is located right off 75 you can be downtown in minutes or you're just a quick car ride from Uptown and Northpark Mall.
I was sad to see that the hotel no longer provides evening turndown service. During previous stays this was always a service that was provided. I was told that this is now available upon request but I didn't find this out until I was checking out. The hotel does still host an evening wine reception that is quite lovely. They provide several choices of beer and wine and sparkling water along with light appetizers for their guests in the lobby area. It's a nice way to relax and chat with other guests before heading out for the evening. Since the hotel is dog friendly you also have the chance to mingle with some of the dogs that are visiting the hotel as well.
All in all this hotel is great and has been consistently great for years. When I travel to Dallas the Palomar is always my first choice. « less

I recently stayed here for a bachelorette party. We stayed in a suite which was great for a few girls since it had a king bed and two pull out couches. We also enjoyed breakfast down in their restaurant area which was awesome. I enjoy the free coffee and tea in the morning and strawberry water through out the day. I feel everything enjoyable here except that the beds hurt my back, I feel like they are a little too firm maybe. Other than that every one working here is a just a pleasure and makes me want to stay here every trip! « less

We live in Dallas and have stayed at Palomar for staycations several times. We always receive excellent service and great rooms. The last time we stayed, we took our dog only because it was a holiday weekend and the pet hotels were already booked, and our dog was even treated like a king. We were given a corner suite with 2 large rooms and did not want to leave. Yes, there are not the best views, as this hotel is on the corner of a major Dallas intersection, but at least you can look out and not directly into another building. Beds are comfortable and plush, and I love their bath products. We cannot recommend enough. « less

Ok, the hotel looks nice. The lobby is sleek and welcoming. The restaurant is right next door. The problem is that although it looks 4 stars...it seems artificial. Like if someone just took a checklist of things that makes a 4-star hotel and chucked it in there. It didn't feel like the space was used right. We checked in and everything was fine. We were greeted with smiles from everyone and we immediately felt the famous southern charm. It was me, my wife and sister-in-law staying in the room and I indicated that on the reservation. Regardless, when we got to our room we noticed only one bed. We're a close family. But not that close. I went back down and got another room. As we walk in I hear this noise that sounded like water running. Sure enough the toilet was running water and not stopping. It was not leaking but it looked like the water did not reach reach the level needed to shut off. So the toilet tank kept filling up endlessly while the thing that goes inside was sticking out out of it! So my wife and I looked at each other and said this is not a 4-star hotel. We should have stayed at the 4.5 star one for $40 more. Damn. We called and the front desk sent up the engineer to fix it. He did and we left out for dinner. As we walk back in the hotel room, there's the noise again and water all over the floor! It's about 11pm and we just want to turn in so we call the front desk and they send another guy up. He's shocked and apologizes profusely at what he's seeing. There's no fix so we're on to out third room. Once in the room, everything looks OK. The front desk calls and comps us breakfast at the restaurant (about $50) next door. I really didn't expect this at a 4-star hotel. Sure they were very nice about it but c'mon. Everyone apologized and I thought they handled it well but 4-star hotels shouldn't have bathrooms in that shape. The rest of the stay went without a hitch. The pool area is nice but it was too cold when we got there and couldn't take a dip. I say stay here if you get a great deal. If not, there must be better places. My first choice would be the Omni in downtown. « less

The hotel is chic and stylish with a great bar area. I attended a reception (business, not wedding) and was impressed with the quality of the food. The beds were comfortable. The rooms were clean and modern. The rooms are small and because of the location there are no great views. The staff is exceptionally friendly. « less
