Had a fabulous vacation and couldn't have pick a better hotel for location wise. My stay was April24-May2nd with my mom & sister. We were on the 7th floor of the taller building by the lobby entrance. Yes, its a little outdated and could use some fresher look but with a turn around of travels the blankets/towels/carpets are gonna be worn out quickly. Our towels were very plush and new looking so that was a bonus. The rooms are spacious with 2 beds and plenty of room to move around in with 2 wicker chairs/coffee table, fridge, coffee maker. The bonus was a big slider lanai that had a nice breeze every night, air conditioner of course (which was above the beds). The beds were comfortable and plenty of pillows, the bedspread was flower printed of course(your in hawaii) little old but we stored it in the closet so it didn't feel as outdated in the room(plus it felt cleaner). With the weather all you needed was a sheet at night. The bathroom was a nice size with a big Jacuzzi tub very strong jets, its outdated colour pink but who cares when your tired at the end of the day. Had no problem with the cleaning lady who did a great job everyday and had a smile all the time, she gave us extra shampoo and coffee when we asked her. The only downsize to the location of the room was in the morning around 6:30-7am you do hear the garbage truck beeping and at night depending the weekend you do hear some noise outside no big deal for us(we slept with the a/c on and the patio door open for fresh air at night. The 7th floor only had 6 rooms so it was nice that this hotel was small in size and they were able to focus on friendly service/cleanness rather than a bigger hotel with lots of rooms where possibly the service isn't that great. Front desk was very helpful with directions, where was a good restaurant to eat at and general conversation. "Complimentary " Breakfast as I quote has the basic items, toast, fruits, coffee, tea, juice and everyday a different roll(muffin, croissant, roll with ham or cheese in it)This is a bonus as many hotels in Hawaii don't offer these without a price. I don't understand why people complain about the food what more do you want? If you are looking for bacon and eggs go to Ihop around the corner or pay more at another hotel and have yourself a greasy breakfast. There's always fresh lemon water waiting for your return to the hotel. The pool is small and in a corner only time its warm from the sun is 12pm-5pm but are you really there to swim in the pool when you have the beach , a shower is there as well and a sauna (which they lock for safety reasons for kids, just ask and they will open it for you) Lots of chairs and tables and 3 lounge chairs for the pool. The location of this hotel was 2min walk to ABC store, Whaler store, and across from the stores was the public bus which is very handy and also you can catch the bus to Hilo Hattie for Hawaiian shopping. We were 1 1/2 blocks to the main street of tourist and a 15 min walk to International Market, 10 min walk to the beach. Everything was within walking distance of 15-25 mins. From where we were at start point of the tourist area( Coach store) to walk further down the strip it would be 40 min walk towards the end of the tourist area. Cheesecake Factory was a 8 min walk and on Kuhio Street tons of restaurants, if you want a good meal try Seaside Restaurant they have lobster/shrimp/steaks/pasta worth the budget friendly price. Try the samples at the Honolulu Cookie store its addicting we bought lots home for friends. We were there when they had the Spam Festival and it was packed with people/music/food, they had Spam samples for you to try (tried it and reminded me of a can of dog food yuck) Wii Five is only at the front desk so that was a pain as we thought it was in the rooms but no big deal. Nice Koi pond and turtles just around the corner of the front desk something to look at. Our flight didn't leave till 9pm and they stored our luggages till the limo came to pick us up very accommodating. I say for the money we spent at this hotel and the perfect location its clean and comfortable and great staff it's was worth it. Defiantly will return with the husband and kids. Great job to the staff at Aqua Joy!! « less

Stayed at the Aqua Joy on April 24-May 2 and enjoyed every single day. Its all about location and this hotel was so close to the main street less that 2 blocks and less than 5 min walk and less than 5 mins to the bus and trollys. ABC store 5 stores down and a grocery store name Whalers. The rooms were very spacious with the 2 double beds and with a HUGE lanai which you do not see in most hotels and the bathroom had a jacuzzi with very strong jets - stronger than my own at home. The lady (only lady that works there) at front desk Irjan (sorry if i spelled your name wrong) was so helpful- she printed restaurants for us and gave us info on where to eat. She was the most wonderful and patient lady and also Mark. In fact the entire staff at Joy was remarkable and the housekeepers are wonderful. I cant tell you how great and safe this hotel is- they lock the gate at night and there's always someone at the front desk. They always have a refreshing lemon water waiting for you and its always cold. The breakfast in the basics -toast-muffin-a surprise bun with either apples or ham and cheese in them and then your coffee and tea and pineapple or orange juice. What more you want and its FREE - most places in Hawaii dont offer this. Yes, the rooms are dated but i didnt go to Hawaii to look at the walls and furniture- as long as it was bug free and clean i was good. Theres a Koi pond and turtle pond which was cute to look at - yes the pool is small but nobody was ever there and it was great for me- there was a shower there also and in the ladies bathroom a heated toilet- you gotta try it. Only one thing was the WFI could only be connected downstairs and not in the rooms. Yes- it was noisy with the garbage trucks but every night my sister and i slept with the doors open and i am a light sleeper but i still slept. If you stay here get room 710 or 712- only 5 rooms on this floor and thats another great thing - not too many people banging doors. Next time i will be bringing my husband to this hotel- and im hard to please !!! « less

This is an older hotel and could use some updateing. They don't have a station in the lobby that you can access the internet. The rooms are clean but do need a lot of updateing. The pool is very small. Staff was helpfull and did what they could for us. They should also check the batteries on the remotes every now and then because when we checked in the batteries for the AC were dead. This is something all hotels should do once a month or so. The hotel is in a great location and easy walking distance to the attraction. I had order flowers for my wife to be in the room when we got there but I had to go to the front desk to get them. « less

We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights during a visit to Honolulu in April 2013. It is in a very convenient location to Waikiki and the many shops, restaurants and attractions in the area. By far the biggest asset of the hotel is its staff, all of whom we met were universally friendly and helpful. We particularly felt that "Mark" in the lobby was very helpful in answering our sometimes bizarre quesitons.
The property itself is showing signs of age but the rooms were comfortable and clean. The continental breakfast was barely adequate but that was a minor concern while on vacation. The swimming pool is small but usable anytime by asking at the desk. (Also we didn't go to Waikiki to spend time at the hotel pool.)
Overall, the hotel is a good value for the money and was accommodating to all of our important needs. « less

Great location and very quiet Waikiki hotel. Easy walk to beach, shopping, & restaurants. Staff was efficient. But Hotel is so outdated. Sad little paintings, faded & old. (Just take them off the wall already!) Wallpaper curling off the walls. Old polyester floral bed spreads. Floral stickers on the mirrors...? (Cheap, college dorm deco ;) Little, tiny "splash pool" (aka large bath tub)off in the corner with a view of a concrete wall. Never once in a 2 day stay saw a single person relaxing in lobby, pool or sauna. Very secure, locked uninviting sauna. Jacuzzis tubs in rooms, which feel pretty good but so loud, faded & old. For under $100 this place is a good value. I am sure improvements and remodeling are in the future (much needed!) and until that happens I will not reccomend this hotel to visiting friends & family. « less
