The hotel is located about 5 mins from the centre of Zurich on tram routes 11 and 14. The tram stop is directly in front of the hotel which is very convenient.
Although the hotel restaurant is quite reasonable, there appear to be very few local restaurants or bars open in the evening. This means a tram ride down into the centre of town if you fancy a meal or a quick drink outside of the hotel.
The rooms are clean, but very small, as is the single bed. A kettle or coffee machine would be a useful addition to the room. « less

Good, clean hotel at a good price, Breakfast was attractive with a great variety. Solo rooms were a little bid to small. The main train station was reachable by feet (800m), the airport by taxi about 20 min away. In front of the hotel is a local train station, which takes you direct to the main shopping street of Zurich. I´ll stay again, if I´ll come back to Zurich. « less

Pros: excellent restaurant, great views on the 5th floor, some nice amenities, stylish décor, train stop directly out front, great hotel to get some laundry done (see below).
Cons: small-ish rooms versus the competition, parking costs extra, better values elsewhere unless traveling in a group or needing to do several loads of laundry.
Stayed here for 3 days or so back in February, and it's a nice hotel. It isn't as well-located for people preferring to walk to Zurich's central areas near the main train station, but fortunately there is a train stop directly out front which makes it relatively painless to get around via the EXCELLENT Swiss public transportation.
The staff as a whole isn't quite as friendly/helpful as some other hotels, but they're certainly not rude or a problem. The hotel itself is very clean, and the rooms have a great modern décor. Downside is, the rooms are a bit on the small side unless you step up to the suites, but for business travelers they're great. There is a nice electric shoe shine machine on the 2nd or 3rd floor that worked surprisingly well on my black leather boots (covered in winter grime). The bowl of apples often located on the front desk was a nice way to get a quick, healthy, and tasty, snack.
The real allure of this hotel however is the restaurant. Quite simply, it's excellent. Pricey yes, but by far the best hotel food I ate in Switzerland outside of the ski resort towns. Skip the nearly 30CHF Angus burger because you can find something similar for 1/3rd the price in the USA, but otherwise you can't miss regardless of what you order. I ate 4 meals in the restaurant during my stay here, and they were all great (most lunch items include a free plate from the salad bar). However, there is a dish (forget the name) that the Swiss really love that is composed of veal, Rösti (crispy hash browns) and a creamy gravy. I had this exact style of dish 3 times while in Switzerland, and the one served at the Krone is okay, but not as delicious versus the much tastier and more generous counterparts served at restaurants like Domus in the city of Zug. Soups are great, the wine wonderful (never had a bad glass of wine in Switzerland) and the salad bar nicely varied.
If I were to be staying in Zurich with a group of 3, this hotel has some great suites that I imagine would be fantastic hangouts for those wanting a balcony during the summer months. The West rooms would be great for watching the sun go down and the east fun for people-watching while sipping a drink.
If you've been on the road awhile and are packing a lot of dirty laundry, hotel laundry services can be very expensive and public laundromats aren't common in Zurich. Fear not my friend! There is a single washer and dryer combo in the rear building so you can do a load or two. Similarly, Hotel Krone Unterstrass has a dry cleaner right next door who offers great service and reasonable prices. He cleaned a couple shirts for me and I wish I could get similar pricing/service near to my home in Los Angeles.
The Bottom Line: this place isn't about just the rooms; it's the lil' extras that make the difference. Doing laundry after a month on the road can be expensive, but this place turns that pricey proposition into a (relatively) inexpensive and minor chore. Foodies will LOVE this place so long as their wallets can take the hit, and while the rooms are a tad small compared to the competition, I must admit the great 5th floor views and slick décor offset any gripes I had about room size. « less
