RENAISSANCE TAMPA HOTEL INTERNATIONAL PLAZA

The hotel is located in Westshore, an upscale suburb of Tampa, Florida. The new Renaissance Tampa Hotel International Plaza is strategically positioned in the heart of the International Plaza shopping center. The shopping center offers the most comprehensive shopping experience in the Tampa area, everything from Neimans to Nordstroms. Bay Street, the mall’s extensive food and beverage experience winds through the plaza, connecting at one end to the P E L A G I A restaurant offered at the Renaissance. Tampa has a rich history of ethnic influences. Cuban and Spanish architecture are prominent throughout the city. Ybor City, the area of Tampa which has been revitalized, reflects many of the original “melting pot” influences from all of the various cultures, Italian to Irish to Spanish. The extensive tile and stonework, iron detailing, stucco archways and open air courtyard are all pieces of the past which are threaded within the new Renaissance, furthering its connection to Tampa and reinforcing a sense of place. Reminiscent of period Spanish architecture, the lush and heavily landscaped interior courtyard has become the heart of the hotel. Within this area there is an architectural feeling of the grand homes of the Mediterranean coast, European Riviera, and Costa del Sol in particular. The soul of this experience and the architectural detailing permeates throughout the interiors of the new hotel. The private and residential experience of the courtyard has become the inspiration for creating an interior experience of a private residential mansion. The design intent is not a “hotel” per se, but the illusion that this was once a private residence built by a famous land baron in the early 1900’s. This important era of industrial expansion and the railroad forever ingrained Florida as the winter resort for the wealthy. Images of Palm Beach, Boca Raton, classic hotels like the Breakers and the rich architecture of Addison Mizner are uniquely interwoven into the design of the new Renaissance Tampa Hotel International Plaza.
