Garrett's Desert Inn was built in 1956 and has been transformed by the Garrett family in to the charming, affordable Southwestern Inn that rests on the legendary Old Santa Fe Trail. Since 1977 the family and staff have made it their priority to make your stay as comfortable and memorable as possible.
The eighty-three comfortable rooms or suites feature a queen or king sized bed, private dressing area, televisions with premium channels, direct dial telephones, in-room coffee service and hair dryers.
As recommended by the New York Times, Garrett's Desert Inn is Santa Fe's most affordable downtown location. The Inn is located in the heart of Santa Fe's historic district, just two blocks south of the Plaza on the Old Santa Fe Trail.
Once you have settled into your room, step on to the legendary Old Santa Fe Trail, the history and culture of Santa Fe are at your feet.
Within footsteps you'll walk to many of Santa Fe's fine galleries, museums, shops and historical sites. Visit the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum or step back in time and learn about Santa Fe's history at the Palace of the Governors Museum. Eleven museums provide a stunning glance at history, art and local culture. Galleries and shops are filled with many treasures.
All year long, Santa Fe is spectacular and offers a dazzling array of special events such as the world renowned Santa Fe Opera, the Wine and Chile Fiesta, Spanish Market, Indian Market and Las Fiestas de Santa Fe. Winter snow brings spectacular skiing. Christmas magic is enhanced by festive Faralitos and Luminarias adoring the city. Throughout the year music abounds from Opera to Mariachi.

This hotel has a desperate need for some attention! Improvements in cleanliness are essential and it needs a complete update (carpet, furnishings, etc.) The room smelled of smoke, carpet was stained, bedspread, shams, and bathroom were dirty!!! I checked out after 5 minutes of my arrival. It was unfortunate that this occurred at 10 pm, because it was very difficult to find another hotel room, but absolutely necessary. Don't recommend staying here until they do a total makeover! I am awaiting word if I will get reimbursed for my pre-paid reservation. « less

Dear Guest,
I would like to sincerely apologize to you for the many problems you encountered while visiting our hotel. It is absolutely unacceptable to have had those problems in any guest room. Please know that this is not how we operate this hotel. We do our utmost to maintain an absolutely spotless facility. It appears we did drop the ball this time.
I would like to tell you that we are scheduled for a spectacular renovation over the next few months. We have an amazing location in Santa Fe, just 2 blocks off the Plaza, and with our soon to be newly refurbished hotel, and at a great value, would like to invite you back and allow us another opportunity to redeem ourselves.
I do thank you for your candor in your review and while it is difficult to learn, it is truly the only way, we can get better and better. I have shared your comments with our housekeeping staff and room inspectors.
Again, my sincerest apologies for your experience. We remain at your service and welcome you back to experience our improved hospitality.
Sincerely, Hotel Director of Sales

I live in Santa Fe and often have out of town guests stay here. I also hold day long conferences here. The location is amazing...the facilities are more than adequate...clean and sufficiently well maintained.
This is not a 'romantic hideaway' by any stretch but it IS a great value for this town which can be very expensive. Great swimming pool...wonderful in the warmer months...easy walking to high-end restaurants OR the family budget fare.
Also they have been in the process of opening their restaurant space. The space has had many lives...but this time the Inn is going to be the proprietor...we are all hoping for the best in this endeavor and as a guest/conference attendee it will be a major PLUS. « less

This is an older motel (1950s) and is located just down the street from the Loretto Church and the Plaza. You will not find any other motel in downtown Santa Fe for this value. The large hotel across the street will cost you four times as much. The rooms are basic, clean, a bit tattered here and there, and NOT soundproof. However, the room I had was spacious enough not to feel cramped. The bathroom had older- shall we call them vintage- fixtures but was very clean. The bed was large and comfortable but the pillow shams were torn. The people in the office were very nice, cheerful, and helpful. I think some better artwork (my room had a really bad, blah watercolor of a pueblo) and spiffing the rooms up would be in a good suggestion for the owners. There is easy parking in the center of the large L-shaped building for only $8. a night- a bargain in Santa Fe. There is a coffee pot and coffee packs in the room and always coffee available in the lobby. Not a fancy place to pamper yourself but with so many (!) tempting things for sale in Santa Fe it is a good place to save money in lodging. Small fee for dogs. Definitely worth staying in this motel if you are not looking for luxury. « less

Dear Guest,
I really appreciate your kind comments concerning what a great value we are in comparison to other hotels within walking distance of the plaza. Not everyone can afford or wishes to spend a large portion of the travel budget on a hotel room, as you say, when there are so many wonderful stores and galleries on which to splurge.
I also very much appreciate your acknowledgement of our terrific staff. We do pride ourselves on being very customer service driven and do our best to ensure that every guest is treated with sincere hospitality. The crew loves hearing positive comments and I will be sure to share your kind remarks with them.
Yes, it is true we are all dog lovers here at the hotel. We make it easy for guests traveling with beloved family pets to have a good place to stay for the pooches too!
We are starting a hotel renovation soon and the areas that were not perfect that you described will certainly be taken care of.
Please come back to see us and bring your pet and we will delight in showing you our wonderful new changes.
We very much appreciate your comments and thank you for your valuable input!
Sincerely, Director of Sales

Dear A Eu B,
Thank you so much for your comments concerning your recent stay. I am glad that you found our hotel affordable, a good value and also enjoyed our proximity to the plaza.
Our hotel will undergo a renovation soon and we are very excited about that. We will still maintain an excellent value in comparison with other downtown properties, but we will have a fresh and modern new look. It is exciting!
We are also working on opening our restaurant and providing meal service for our guests. Parking is at a premium in Santa Fe so the parking fee will remain, however, I should note that our parking fees are about $20 less than other hotels in our area.
Please come back and see us once our renovation is complete and enjoy new rooms, great service and still at an affordable price for downtown Santa Fe.
We value your comments and feedback!
Sincerely, Director of Sales
