We had a family reunion with 7 families staying overnight and more joining for meals. The servers in Bogarts and Kilbern were very patient with our large group and took great care of us. The hotel has been renovated in certain areas but is a little tired in others. Bathrooms are small, but clean.

"Beautiful Hotel, but Terrible Experience"

We reserved a room for our family for July 10th. We called ahead on July 9th to make sure we could check in early because we would be arriving around 11 the next day. They assured us over the phone it would be no problem. We showed up to The Campbell House on July 10th at 11:37 am. We were told the room wasn't ready and to come back in an hour. We drove down the road and got something to eat. So around one we called them and the room still wasn't ready. We took a nap in our car with our two children since we were all tired and waited for the phone call from the hotel. We woke up around 4 pm and called the hotel. Apparently, our room has been ready for hours but they just forgot to call us. We arrived and our room was a one king bed in a tiny room. There were four of us including our children who are 7 and 8. So we slept in our tiny room that night and it was very cramped but we dealt with it. Later on, we checked my husbands balance in his checking account and the hotel has overcharged our room by $230. We called the front desk and were told that money was taken out to cover incidentals. This was not disclosed to us when we checked in. We were going to be staying for a month in this hotel due to my husbands job being in Clay City. They assured us they will get it back on our card by the next week as it was Saturday. Since the room was so tiny they did give a free upgrade to a larger room. The new room was 3X the size of the last with two queen beds. This hotel is beautiful, I mean gorgeous! It also has a gorgeous pool. So we took the kids for a swim a few times. About the 3rd time (the 2nd week there), the kids were crying on the way back to the room saying their skin was burning badly. I called our pediatrician and described all the symptoms. He said it was chemical burn and to give them benadryl and take pictures of it just in case they needed to go to the hospital. My husband made a personal trip to talk to the guy who runs the pool. He tested the water with my husband standing there. The chemicals were indeed above where they should have been. They apologized and closed the pool so that other guests wouldn't get burned as well. They called the manager and notified him immediately on Saturday. We didn't hear back from the manager until Monday afternoon. He apologized and offered us $150 food credit. A few days later, same thing happens. We go swimming and we all get chemical burns, again, in the same week! We waited for a call all weekend from the manager after leaving all our info at the front desk. The director of maintenance, a very nice guy, said the manager sent him to speak with us about the chemicals in the pool. He wasn't here when it happened either time still he insisted in a nice way there was nothing wrong with the levels but assured us they would "make it right". It was a case where they were afraid to admit fault. After he spoke with my husband they agreed to work on a deal for a few free nights or some more food credit. They called us back the next day and said we would have five free nights off the month that we were staying there. So a few days go by and the hotel staff called and asked when we were going to pay for the upcoming week. We advised them of the free nights. She said she showed no record of it. At this point we are livid. I am so tired of the management and the front desk not informing each other of anything. We call the front desk the next day to see if it was taken care of and they told us it was now 7 nights we would have for all the problems we have had to deal with. It's a beautiful hotel that is terribly managed. I would never stay here again!

Our room was very comfortable. The bed was comfortable and the room clean. There could be more lighting in the room since all the colors are dark and the light fixture between the beds didn't work well. The towels were very soft and nice. I liked the vanity area outside the bathroom to ease two people dressing at the same time. We know you will be remodeling soon and some hallways and the elevator we used are really in need of updating. We got good service from employees and the cookies and beverages in the lobby were a very nice touch. The outside of the hotel was very impressive. Entertainment in the lounge was good and the pool looked nice even though we did not use it.
