Opened in August, 1994, Chicago's United Center is a multi-purpose facility located west of the city's famed Loop, and is jointly owned and plays host to the NBA's Chicago Bulls and the NHL's Chicago Blackhawks. In addition, the United Center hosts numerous entertainment events, including professional boxing and wrestling, the Ringling Brothers Barnum ∓ Bailey Circus, Disney On Ice, University of Illinois basketball games, the Big Ten basketball tournament, NCAA Regional championship contests, Illinois High School basketball and ice hockey championship tournaments, professional rodeo, and served as host for the 1996 Democratic National Convention. Another unique event staged at the United was Oprah Winfrey's farewell fete in 2011.
