If it wasn't for the location, you would be better served to stay at a Knights Inn and save yourself some money. I have stayed at Shell Island for close to 15 years and until the past five years, it was a great place. In the past few years, however, the quality has diminished and the price has risen. It's just the way of the business world these days, but regardless I prefer better quality when I'm on vacation.

We just love the place, for 20 years of trips, it just feels like home. The staff is friendly, the rooms are smart and efficient for a family and the location and the view are better than anywhere we have ever stayed in the world.

The hotel sits right upon Wrightsville Beach and is designed so each room boasts a nice view of the Atlantic. The room is actually a suite, comprised of a separate bedroom, bathroom and common area, which is conducive to privacy if more than one person is staying. While some walls could use a brightening coat of paint or a dab here or there of spackling, the amenities are current and up to date, which is nice. Downstairs boasts a spacious and well kept lobby with easy access to the ocean, pools, or a cafe whose quality of food is competent. All in all, this was a charming and efficient hotel and I would likely stay here again.
