Verified Reviews of Danfords Hotel & Marina

Below are the verified reviews from guests that we have booked recently:
"Good location, comfortable beds, the rest needs work."
Overall Score2.0/ 5
My wife and I selected Danfords in Port Jefferson for two days for a funeral in town. I can see why it's popular it's adjacent to the ferry, right in the downtown. It looks like the Hotel was "refreshed" several years ago, but the upkeep since then has been spotty. There were some unpleasant issues that the Hotel could not control: Someone with no knowledge of his car alarm set it off early in the morning outside our window on both days and then proceeded to run his sports exhaust for an hour. The Hotel is old and you hear every step and creek from the room above you. (Try to get an upper floor if you can) That being said, it was a large room and the beds were one of the most comfortable I've ever slept in. There's a nice "champaign welcome" and continental breakfast (The restaurant was under renovation) and water bottles in the room. The room also has a Keurig coffee maker and a refrigerator, nice touches. You should note, however, that the price you see on the Internet may not include the $29 per night "resort fee", which apparently pays for the breakfast, water and the champaign. They should just make this part of the price since it's not optional. Our room needed some TLC: Bath: Slow drain, Fan Control broken, hand shower leaking (and will spritz you right in the face), there were odd splotches on the wall that would clean up when wiped down, looks like someone lost control of a carbonated beverage in there that was never fully cleaned up, several spots where the wallpaper had been gouged and were peeling off the wall. Room: Main light switch did nothing, you needed to turn each light on/off independently, power shade on the side of the room was non functional, rubber tread marks on the floor from a previous visitor's rollaboard had not been cleaned up, TV remote had no back cover to hold the batteries in, the coffee service was mysteriously not refreshed on the second day. Overall, if you're looking for a "premium" experience, this is not the place for you. If you're just looking for a convenient hotel in Port Jeff, this is a pricey option, but I would definitely recommend the upper floors (which must be reached via stairs).

"No parking/not in main hotel."
Overall Score2.0/ 5
I had to park a mile away from my room. Then I am not in the main section of the hotel I am across the street staying in the Jetty House. Won't be coming back very disappointing.

"The room was nice but hospitality was lacking."
Overall Score3.0/ 5
Our room and the location were nice but we found the hospitality to be lacking. We left for breakfast and returned to our an hour before checkout to find the room was being overturned and cleaned. We still had a full hour that we paid for. When I brought this to the attention of the front desk attendant she stated that she didn't know why but asked if I was now ready to check out. I didn't have much of a choice. Checking in was the same where none of the area or the amenities of the hotel were provided in a friendly or helpful way.

"Avoid."
Overall Score1.0/ 5
I'm not usually a complainer, but this time I really have to. My experience at Danford's was spectacularly subpar. Check in was fine, but when I was given directions to my room and told it was “downstairs,” I should have asked a follow up question. It was, indeed downstairs, a basement or garden level room. Fine, no big deal. I'm just there to sleep. Speaking of sleeping, I was looking forward to that king bed I paid for. Nope. Didn't get that. Instead I got a twin and when I sent a message about it, radio silence. But, really, who cares about the size of the bed? I would have happily taken the smaller one. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't paying for the room I had not gotten. Because it was a basement room, the WiFi was…spotty to say the least. Then there were the bugs. Small roaches (?) all around the mini fridge and then the outlet in the bathroom looked like it had been a roach hangout. There were even small roaches in the cable box, which was a fun surprise when I was trying to get it to work. I should have complained and got a different room, but if this is what one is like, realistically, they are all like that. So I stayed, against my better judgement. But last night, when I went to shower, I pulled down a towel and with it came a bug of some sort. I was OUT. The person at the front desk was apologetic and helpful it's really not their fault, so no harm on their end. I got a different room. But, ugh. Just a bummer of an experience. We're I the owner, I would be ashamed that this is the state of my hotel. I went out to the wedding that I was there to attend (let's also mention that this particular room was a part of a block so this is what they are giving out), I came back and a cvs bag with some snacks and toiletries had been thrown away. No big deal, a negligible cost. But, still, you could throw that away, but couldn't clean the bathroom outlet? For the amount I paid, on Long Island, I expected a LOT more in terms of cleanliness. Did they not take the time during the pandemic to deep clean and debug their hotel? I stayed because it was close to the ferry. Next time I'll take the hassle of staying further away just to avoid this let down of a hotel. If you still choose to go, if the give you a Lighthouse room, say no.

"Not worth the money."
Overall Score3.0/ 5
our first and last time at Danfords we were first given a room at ground level between a staircase and a parking lot. For almost five hundred dollars per night you would expect something safer and more private. After being told initially that there were no other rooms available, we were given a room on a second floor. We did appreciate the change. The second issue is that there is no noise filtering from the street. The windows are old and you hear every talk or car passing by. Wave restaurant was also average at best. Food was edible but nothing to remember. Overall, overpriced and overhyped.
