Sir Ranulph Fiennes, a lifetime Windsor resident and a noted traveler, adventurer and daredevil, says, 'The key is to learn from one's failures. Then to keep going. And to know where to stop. It's important to know yourself, because that's the only person who's going to be of any help at all to you.”
Knowing one's own self may not be such an easy task, and it may require years of intense self-scrutiny and dedication. But in the least, the quote reflects what the city of Windsor has come to be to its own, its adopted and its travelers.

Located less than 20 kilometres drive from London, Windsor is a famous city in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead in Berkshire. The city itself is world famous for its Windsor Castles, one of the three official residences of the British Royal Family. Apart from that, there are quite a few architectural and historical monuments in Windsor that can engage travelers and tourists on a cerebral level. Hotels in Windsor, much like buildings in Windsor, are often pieces of remarkable architecture – making them a sight to behold.

Stay in Windsor for a Bargain

Tourists and travelers often visit Windsor through London and do not stay here for more than a night. However, those who have business in Windsor, or those who want to take their time to see all the sights in and around Windsor, staying here becomes a necessity. For such people, there are a few budget hotels in Windsor that can get the job done, without costing too much. These establishments can hardly be called state of the art, or lavish, for that matter. But it should always be noted that most of them do provide add-on amenities if you choose to pay for the surplus. If you are looking for a simple bed and breakfast and a comfortable (and safe) place to store your luggage while you go out for seeing sights, such cheap hotels can be really good choices.

Enter The World of Luxury in Windsor

As noted earlier, Windsor is best known for the Windsor Castle – an impressive palace that can never fail to inspire awe in those who watch it at night, when it's in its brightest of existences. For those who are awestruck by the beauty of the castle, there are some similar luxury hotel buildings in Windsor that can make you feel like a long lost kin to the royalty. Caesars Windsor, Holiday Inn Windsor and Hyatt Windsor are a few examples of luxury Windsor hotels that, despite being a tad too expensive for most of the tourists, are still popular among them. Another reason to choose such a hotel in Windsor is the fact that a similar hotel in London usually costs three or four times higher. So, many travelers who are on their business in London choose to stay in a Windsor luxury hotel for convenience of transport as well as affordability.

Places to See and Things to do in Windsor

There are no too many 'sights' to see in Windsor in the strictest sense of the word. However, for those who have keen eyes and a sharp understanding of history, as well as a penchant for learning, there's a lot of stuff that can be counted as interesting in Windsor. Windsor Castle, as noted earlier, is perhaps the best identification of Windsor in the world outside. The original foundation of the castle is known to date back to the 11th century, when Roman influence in England was not only prevalent, but also very strong. The castle, in its present state today, is an official residence of the British Royal Family and is, at times, made open to public. The castle is also a regular weekend getaway of the reigning Queen of England, HM Elizabeth the Second.

St. George's Chapel is also another tourist attraction in Windsor. A historic building in its own right, the chapel is a longstanding ambassador of High English Gothic architecture, and a place of worship for thousands of locals. Theatre Royal Windsor is another place that tourists visiting Windsor just can't give a miss. The theatre is acoustically optimized and regularly hosts famous plays, operas and concerts. Windsor Gate Park is a perfect morning and evening jog site if you want to keep fresh throughout your Windsor touring days.

Hotels Near Airport in Windsor

Windsor, being located so near London, does not have its own airport to speak of. However, for all practical purposes, the Heathrow Airport at London can be considered to be the central airport for Windsor. Once you land at Heathrow and you check out of the airport, you will notice that there are quite a few hotel establishments in a radius of 10 miles. Depending upon your tastes, your needs and more importantly, your budget, you can choose any one of these for a short or a long stay. If not, you always have the option of hiring a cab to travel down to Windsor, or just hop onto one of many buses that leave Heathrow for Windsor every 15 minutes. Windsor hotels, quite understandably so, will cost you much less than what the ones around Heathrow will set you back by.

Transportation in Windsor

Transportation is not an issue at all in Windsor. Call it a perk of being located nearby London, or a side-product of being a city that hosts the Royal Family every weekend, public and private transportation is quite extensive and quite convenient in Windsor. There are very frequent bus and taxi rounds from the Heathrow, the Victoria Coach Terminus and the Charing Cross, to downtown Windsor. If you miss all of these, the new abundance of app based taxi services will be at your service within 2 minutes of you notifying your interest. Most establishment in and around Windsor, including cheap hotels, do provide all the necessary assistance regarding transportation for sightseeing or for travel.

Summing it all up, you can rest assured that your stay in Windsor will be free of any hassle and quite enjoyable, if you plan it out accordingly.
