Don Juan Beach Resort, Boca Chica Beach, Dominican Republic has always respected and protected its environment. Our staff always working becoming efficient in food preparation systems, potable water treatment, sewer discharge pre-treatment, ozone air treatment, appropriate garbage handling and disposal, energy efficiency, low consumption of fuels and chemicals, etc.
In the past years the property has obtained the Green Planet Award, given by a Kuoni Travel Foundation of Switzerland, and the Environment Conservation of Merit, given by the Florida Commerce Institution.
And recently this 2014 the Ministry of Natural Resources issued us a Environmental Certificate for complying with strict environmental management established by the World Bank.

Some aspects we are currently improving are:
1- Water management
This is based on real on-line control management of this precious resource.
a- technicians on site measure consumption controls, aimed at saving facilities reservoirs toilets saving system, multijet shower knobs, detecting and correcting leaks, while keeping staff up to date with all these elements.
b- we encourage our guests with water saving messages into offices and rooms, towels and handling.
c- technical control optimization operation of the laundry, with management control and optimization of load washing machines
d- control and optimization of water consumption as our boiler attached elements, with optimizations vapor returns and minimization of water consumption
e- optimization operation of our water softener, improving product quality and minimizing purging to the minimum required.
f- recirculation of hot water
2- Energy management:
This focuses on two main areas, handling and use of LPG for both kitchen use and for production of various for laundry use to heat water. the other axis is focused on the control of electrical energy consumption.
a- Control LPG consumption:
In just four months this 2014, LPG consumption has been reduced by 50% equivalent, with strict control of our boiler operation with the operation hours of our laundry, so we can produce vapor por washing machines and at the same time produce the hot water needed in the kitchen and guests’ rooms. This has allowed us to reduce the use of our boiler running an average 6-8 hours to 2-3 hours today. New calibrations of the boiler, and deployment of clean technologies allowed us to consistently reduce gas consumption. A strict daily monitoring consumption is implemented, thus promoting awareness of the need for low-power between different hotel managements.
b- Control electricity consumption:
Supervision and monitoring of our electrical installations has allowed us time to generate 30% of our electricity consumption, providing technological improvements where necessary. The use of electrical equipment (kitchen) for LPG gas equipment, more economical but also more ecological footprint of the fuel used in the country was substituted. Also, we multiply the use of electrically heated hot water, our water boiler / boiler ... .going from here to December 25% to 50%... so reducing our electricity consumption of electric heaters water.
This control power consumption also depends on the future installation of control devices consumption engine water pumps, engines and compressor cooling system (cold rooms, ice machines, etc.). Savings expected later this year will be more than 50%.
Our plan envisions in the near future, in the course of next year 2015, the eventual conversion of our LPG boiler biomass boiler. Doing so promoting using renewable fuel, low cost, and recovery.
