When are the best times to visit Fort Bragg, California?

Since Fort Bragg is located directly on the Pacific Ocean, the area experiences mild weather throughout the year. Although summers in Fort Bragg are very cool, this is still the most popular time to visit. Average high temperatures from June to August are in the low to mid-60s. Summer is the driest season of the year, so it's a popular time for festivals and other outdoor events. That means if you're looking for a hotel deal, summer isn't the season to find one.

Fall doesn't bring too much in the way of temperature changes to Fort Bragg. September through November sees average highs in the upper 50s and low 60s. However, the big change is the start of the rainy season, which begins in November. If you're interested in a low hotel rate, you'll start to find some in fall as summer crowds head home.

Even though snow is rare in Fort Bragg, winter is still the slowest season, which makes it a good time to find a hotel deal. Average highs from December to February are in the low 50s. However, keep in mind that winter is the wettest season, and the area sees between 6 and 8 inches of rainfall each month. Therefore, if you want to take advantage of the low rates, you'll need to pack an umbrella.

The rainy season in Fort Bragg sticks around through most of spring. Average highs from March to May are in the mid- to upper 50s. The weather starts to dry out toward the end of April, so you can still find some good hotel deals if you plan your visit early in spring. By the end of May, summer crowds start coming back to the area, and hotels will raise prices again.

What fun things are there to do in Fort Bragg?

With so many outdoor attractions around Fort Bragg, you'll have a hard time deciding which ones to see. Explore Glass Beach, which is part of MacKerricher State Park. For years, trash from the city was dumped into the ocean, and the ocean would then smooth the glass into small pieces. Today, everything from old glass taillights to apothecary bottles make for beautiful pieces of sea glass that wash up on the shore.

When you're done spotting these little treasures, check out the rest of the park to explore the tide pools, look for seals resting on the rocks, or hike the variety of trails.

Another unique attraction in Fort Bragg is the Skunk Train. Hop on this historic train for a scenic ride that runs 40 miles from Fort Bragg to Willits. Along the way, you'll go through beautiful stretches of redwood forests and open meadows. You'll also pass over around 30 bridges and trestles and travel through two mountain tunnels. Or you can take the shorter Pudding Creek Express ride to the Pudding Creek Estuary.
