Naples, Florida is a lush community on the Gulf Coast. Kentucky Senator John Stuart Williams and Walter Haldeman, the publisher of the Louisville Courier-Journal, founded the city in the late 1880s. During that time, newspapers likened the area's mild climate and abundant seafood to the Italian city, and the name Naples eventually caught on. The area quickly became known as a winter getaway resort. If you're interested in visiting Naples to enjoy the beaches, savor the seafood, or explore more of the culture, finding the right hotel room is important. More from this guide...

When to Visit Naples, FL

Even though the months between June and September bring daily average high temperatures in the 90s and monthly average rainfall of about nine inches, these are still some of the busiest months for travelers coming to Naples. Plenty of families use their vacation time in the summer to come to this city on the beach. If you plan on traveling to the area during these months, be ready to pay higher prices for a hotel room. Also, be sure to pack a raincoat, since afternoon rains are an almost daily occurrence.

While fall usually only lasts the months of October and November, it's a nice time to visit Naples. Temperatures will range from the upper 60s to the lower 80s, although there are still occasional rainstorms in the afternoon. However, you can generally get a good deal on a hotel room because the families have left but the snowbirds have yet to arrive.

The months between December and February are actually peak season for Naples. Since daily temperatures hover in the mid-70s, plenty of people travel to the area to escape the cold and snow. As a result, you'll find higher rates at hotels, longer waiting times at restaurants, and more traffic all around.

If you're looking for the ideal time to visit Naples, consider arriving sometime between March and May. As the snowbirds start to head home, hotel prices will begin to drop. However, with temperatures in the upper 70s and low 80s, the weather is still very comfortable. Plus, since Naples isn't as popular for college students on spring break as other parts of Florida, you won't have to deal with that extra traffic.

The city is home to several major land reserves that offer a wide variety of attractions to see. Favorite destinations among these land reserves are the Florida Panther National Wildlife Refuge and Everglades National Park. Stretching for more than 10 miles, the coast offers plenty of space for everyone to enjoy any beach activity they are planning to do. These beaches are among the most beautiful on the Gulf Coast, making any activity enjoyable and fun. At any given day, one can find sunbathers and swimmers enjoying the sun, sand, and the waters. Surely, a day tour to watch dolphins and manatees swim and play alongside your boat will complete your trip.

'What Florida stands for is equality. No discrimination and no nothing. All of us are born equal and that's how we should die!'

These famous words of Martin Luther King Jr still echo in the ears of old-timers in Golden Gate, Florida. Uttered at the height of his charisma and supremacy, that too in a town where traditional southern ways of life, and every travesty that goes with them, are highly revered, these words marked an epochal shift in the life of Golden Gate as a city, and much needless to say, for the better.

Golden Gate has always been a quintessentially American, and then Floridian town that never really made it to the big time. Call it fate or just plain laidback lifestyle, Golden Gate has loved to be at the background of things, never really trying too hard to push itself onto the stage and into the light.

The tourism in this city has followed the exact same gridline, making sure that not too many people take note of what it has to offer, thereby keeping things in a stagnant sort of nature here. But that vice is also the beauty of this city. The inherent modesty and for the want of a better word, shyness of it all, is much too appealing for tourists.

What you get to see and experience here in Golden Gate, FL is much different than your run of the mill Floridian destinations replete with beaches and aquariums. So, take a bold step ahead and embrace the unknown. As Albert Einstein said, knowledge lies in the unknown!

Budget Lodging Options in Golden Gate

To find budget lodging options here in Golden Gate is not too difficult a task that tourists should frown about. It's actually quite easy to score good motels and inns in and around Golden Gate, provided that you are comfortable with the kind of hospitality they provide. Talking of cheap hotels, we can't help but note here that if you are travelling with your family, you should probably give these options an old heave and just go with decent hotels in Golden Gate that, even though a bit more expensive, are safer and more pleasant for a familial outing.

Motels are an inseparable part of American travel tradition. Providing cheap fares for a night or two, motels are often saviors for hitchhikers and backpackers. You can avail their easy going brand of reception, too, if you are bent on saving some wads of cash off your tour budget.

Golden Gate hotels can easily be divided into two distinct categories, the ones that are suitable for solo travelers and the balance ones that are fit for families. So, take your pick based on this important distinction, so that your trip doesn't turn into an awkward farce.

Days Inn & Suites at Naples, a short drive away from Golden Gate, is perhaps the best option in this category of cheap hotels, since average nightly fares start from $65 here.

Also, Comfort Hotel and Inn is a worthy option that is definitely well-suited for families and parents of young children.

Luxury Resorts in Golden Gate

It would be a monumental task to be able to find and book luxury hotels in Golden Gate, simply because there aren't too many!

The best bet then, for tourists who are connoisseurs of designer suites and world class amenities, is to make Naples or Tampa their mainstay of the tour.

In Naples, you can find many brand-named chain resorts like Hilton, Marriott and Hyatt. Of course, if you have these big three of American hospitality industry, you don't even have to look beyond!

Sightseeing in Golden Gate

There's not much that's actually unique to Golden Gate more than its heritage and historic value as an important and strategically well-placed Southern Town.

Various buildings in the old heart of the town are worth taking a look at, as they define what life in the olden times used to be in this part of the world. From the distantly baroque architecture of town hall and court building to the highly ornate town library building, Golden Gate has a lot to show you, if you have got enough time and desire to actually see it!

Most of the things that you will be coming across in Golden Gate as a tourist will be subtle and not over the top. So, a little bit of reaching out from your part will be needed to make sure that you actually 'get' the city and its essence.

Everglades National Park and many other water sports activities can be found in the waters of the bay that surrounds Golden Gate. From swamp fishing to rowing, a number of healthy activities will keep you up and running. As they famously say in Florida, never a dull moment in a young man's life!

Naples, Marco Island and Cape Coral are nearby attractions that you would do really well not missing out on. These are, however, cannot be exclusively included in the sights that Golden Gate would offer.

Those who are interested in local food culture can head down the main street and visit any steakhouse or a regular diner. Florida and good food go hand in hand, and this is your best chance to see it for yourself!

Hotels Near the Airport in Golden Gate

The nearest airport that services Golden Gate is the Naples Airport. While not too far away, it is a fair bit of distance away from the city center, meaning that you will have to look for a suitable lodging option in the vicinity of this airport, and not in Golden Gate.

Golden Gate hotels that are closest to the airport include: Ibis Budget, Hotel Sun Ark and Hotel Primero.

Ideal Time to Visit Golden Gate

Golden Gate is typically Floridian when it comes to weather.

So, to put it very shortly, the best time to visit Golden Gate is all year round (barring the height of summer).

Enjoyed just browsing the shops we did visit, no pressure from anyone to buy, which we did anyway. The choices of shops around the hotel and Tin City we just enjoyed wandering around. The cleanliness of the streets was really great and most visitors respected that by using the proper disposal places supplied for their soda cans, cups and napkins.
