When to Visit Tucson, AZ

Tucson is known for its hot summers and moderate winters, but its high elevation leads to slightly cooler and wetter weather than other Arizona locales. During the typical Tucson summer, you'll encounter daily highs around 100 degrees. July and August constitute the monsoon season, and each month has an average of 10 days of rain.

The spring and fall seasons tend to be mild, with highs in the low 80s or upper 70s and very little rain. Temperatures often dip into the 50s during the winter, though daily highs typically reach the mid-60s. Due to its elevation, Tucson also receives about a half inch of snow every winter.

If you want to see this Arizona city at its best, plan your visit during one of its family-friendly festivals. Every January, the Tucson Jazz Festival draws jazz musicians and fans from around the globe for a 10-day event. In February, La Fiesta de Los Vaqueros brings professional rodeo to Tucson, with saddle bronc riding, bull riding, steer wrestling, and team roping. In October, the Tucson Film and Music Festival attracts movie and music lovers, and the Winterhaven Festival of Lights will help you get in the holiday spirit throughout December.

The selection of restaurants was great. Getting around Tucson was relatively easy because many of the streets are wide with four lanes. It was actually easier than other cities with many freeways.

The Botanical Gardens were an oasis is the middle of the desert. We visited the smaller of the two Saquaro Parks to the west of the city: lots of cacti, and a sunset to awe over.

We came to Tucson for a wedding and we did not have any extra time to see the sights. The Rehearsal Dinner was at North Italia Rest. and the Wedding was held at Stardance Event Center. The weather was beautiful the whole weekend and on the way back to the airport on Sunday we did drive around the campus of the University of Arizona. It was a great trip.

"Tucson is still as good as ever."
Score 5.0 / 5

I found the Kon Tiki, a restaurant on Broadway near Swan, is still up and running after over 40 years. It was one of my favorites when I was a student at the University, and I was delighted to discover their Polynesian drink menu is still superb and the food was excellent. For me, not much had changed. My husband was shocked at how reasonable the prices were for selection and quality.

There is so much to do! Definitely go to the Kartchner Caverns, the Thorne Room was spectacular. The Desert Museum was great: be sure and see the Raptor Show at 2:00 p.m. 4th street downtown is a cute little hippie throwback area; eat at Courscos for great italian food. It was very easy to get around there.
