"Great Uptown Convention Hotel"

The hotel has recently completed a full renovation including all public space and guest rooms. The lobby was very spacious with an extreme contemporary flair. The restaurant was beautiful with rich dark woods, excellent service and excellent food. A business center area is off to the side down a hallway. The hotel has 294 guest rooms, 24 suites and a Holiday Inn Priority Club Lounge. The rooms were beautiful with a very classic and high-end decor. All of the furniture was new and the rooms were extremely clean and fresh. Each room has wall mounted hair dryer, iron and ironing board. The conference space is apx. 11,000 s.f. with the largest room accommodating apx. 150 people. Two ballrooms are across the hall from one another and airwalls are available. Prefunction area attached to one of the ballrooms. Down the hall is a reception area with balcony area. All of the meeting space is decorated in a deep pale yellow tone with nicely covered banquet chairs and stainless still top banquet tables for serving food. The swimming pool is located on the roof top adjacent to an outdoor function area with beautiful pilars. The pool and hot tub appeared to be very clean and had nice furniture. The Priority Member Lounge is accessible by key and staffed for complimentary breakfast and weekday manager's reception, all included in the rate. This hotel is an excellent option for Uptown Charlotte meetings and conventions. The Customer Service was fantastic and the hotel was gorgeous. The location is great with several attractions and restaurants within walking distance. Time Warner Cable Arena is located directly across the street. I can "highly" recommend this hotel!

Smoke smell upon entering room. Gigantic yellow stain on mattress. No space to move about the main room or the bathroom. Customer service with some great, others average (overnight person was dismissive to concern and needs). This was a last minute decision to stay; unfortunately, not the best stay.

"Pros and Cons on this one."

I stayed over on a Friday night, $200 for the room, 12th floor. Pros: room was impeccable, bed was heavenly, shower was excellent. Cons: Parking garage is $20, detached from the hotel so you have to walk outside to get to/from it. I was awakened around three p.m. to a gunshot, followed by a woman yelling “get down!” and four more shots, squealing tires, followed by sirens. Unsettling to say the least. Good thing I didn't need anything from my car in the middle of the night or stepped outside for a smoke. Also, as my room was nonsmoking, I didn't appreciate a strong odor of marijuana in the hallway outside my room. Would never stay here again, but it was a great room. Pros and cons.
