When to Visit Newport, Rhode Island
Like most northeastern cities, Newport is at its best from spring to fall. Summer tends to be the high season in Newport, as the temperatures heat up and the beaches draw large crowds. For the lowest hotel rates of the year, bundle up and visit during the winter.
If you want to enjoy nice weather in Newport without the large groups of tourists, plan your visit during the colorful spring or mild fall season. Keep in mind that several major events coincide with both shoulder seasons, though. The Newport Folk Festival and the Newport Jazz Festival draw thousands of music fans in the spring, while many food and wine events attract crowds in the fall.
