'If you take a look at Sarajevo at any time of the day, from any surrounding hill, you will always inadvertently come to the same conclusion. It is a city that is wearing out and dying, while at the same time being reborn and transformed. Today it is the city of our most beautiful longings and endeavors and bravest desires and hopes., These words were said by the novelist, poet and short story writer of former Yugoslavia “ Ivo Andrić, who won the Nobel Prize in Literature.
The Capital of Historic Diversities and Multiculturalism
Sarajevo is the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and all together - one of the most culturally varied cities in today's Europe. It is a place where hundreds of years ago the people of the Roman Catholic Church, Eastern Orthodox and the Ottoman Empire met and lived without any fear of hate or disapproval, and its name, derived from Turkish saray ovasi, literally translated into 'the field of palace' only gives a glimpse of what it really felt like to be living in this magical place. Perhaps that is why hundreds of tourists visit this city each season not only to check out the great historical sites like the Latin Bridge, well known for the event that sparked to the beginning of World War I, most important parts of the Old town like Vijecnica (City Hall), Morica Han (Morica Inn) or Sebilj (Fountain), but also well-known museums like Bosnian Historical Museum or Sarajevo War Tunnel Museum.
