Originally constructed in 1936 with seating for just fewer than 9,000 people, the Florida Citrus Bowl Stadium is now home to the annual Capital One Bowl, Champs Sports Bowl, Walt Disney World Florida Classic, and University of Central Florida Football. The stadium, which has undergone several renovations to increase its seating capacity and overall appearance, is now home to several concerts and entertainment that come to the Orlando area. The current stadium can fit up to 70,000 guests, after adding bleachers in the north end zone. The facility is conveniently located near Orlando International Airport, as well as several top area attractions, excellent dining, and exciting entertainment. After a $38-million renovation in 1989, the stadium now offers a handicap-accessible elevator, additional disabled seating, electrical and phone upgrades, and a state-of-the-art playing field. The facility is owned and operated by the city of Orlando, and is part of the Orlando Centroplex. In the past, the Florida Citrus Bowl Stadium has played home to the 1994 World Cup Soccer games and the 1996 Olympic Soccer first and second rounds. It has also housed performances for popular bands such as The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, George Michael, Guns 'N Roses, and Billy Joel.
