Property Description
It was in the years 1900 that the first, 9 rooms- hotel was built. In 1985 the small hotel underwent renovation and expansion work to become the “gingerbread” style structure that is the signature mark of the original Kinam hotel. This structure was inspired by a unique style developed locally by Haitian architects returning from training in France at the end of the 19th century. Exclusively made of wood, in the early days, and of concrete material afterwards, gingerbread houses are often called ornate, or fussy, because of the intricate designs that ornate their façade. Haïti's large gingerbread houses are usually well ventilated and perfectly suited for the country's tropical climate.
The new Kinam is a “melting pot” concept of ideas from different architects, decorators, interior designers that, as a team, have brought you this amazing hotel. Our furniture has been exclusively fabricated in Haïti and all interior decoration done by Haitian artists and decorators. Our idea was to showcase the diversity and richness of Haitian culture and talent.
Although more modern, the new Kinam has, nevertheless, kept the Gingerbread touch, with its terraces, ornate balconies, and slanted roofs. Kinam is the first and only hotel of its kind, in the heart of Pétion-Ville and its countless charms. We are inviting you to discover it today.
