Guadalajara is the capital city of Jalisco, in the Western-Pacific area of Mexico. It was first settled in 1532 by Spanish explorers, but due to scarce resources and hostile indigenous people, the city did not begin to flourish until 1560. As the centuries passed, Guadalajara became an important center for agriculture, expedition, and eventually Mexican independence. By the 20th century, Guadalajara's booming growth and population increases made it the second largest city in Mexico and a major hub for commerce, industry, and culture.
Today, Guadalajara is one of the largest urban centers in North America. Its cultural attractions, natural beauty, and classic architecture are wondrous, attracting tourists from around the world. Whatever your reason for visiting Guadalajara, you'll want to find the ideal hotel so that nothing stands in your way of enjoying the area.
When is the best time of year to visit Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico?
The best time to visit Guadalajara is between October and November, when temperatures hover around 70 degrees. These months are the ideal time to take a cultural city walking tour, explore historic buildings, and play golf beside charming Lake Chapala. You can also experience the famous Guadalajara International Book Fair, the second largest event of its kind in the Spanish-speaking world. Crowds, naturally, are one of the downsides during the peak visitation season. Since many visitors will be in the city, be sure to book your hotel early.
Between March and June, you'll experience hot days and balmy evenings. Take advantage of cooler times of the day to take tours, visit historic sites, and experience city events — just remember your sunscreen. From July to September, you'll face warm 80-degree temperatures but also high amounts of rainfall. You'll need an umbrella, and you may want to rule out certain outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, and playing golf. However, this rainy period is a great time to explore Guadalajara's many specialty shops, enjoy mestizo fare at a restaurant, and catch a show at Teatro Degollado. In addition, hotel rates will be affordable and the city won't be overly crowded.
During the winter, temperatures drop into the 70s, making this period a great time to tour, watch a mariachi performance, and explore top attractions such as Expiatory Temple, Palacio de Gobierno, and El Instituto Cultural Cabañas. Like the fall, this season can also be a crowded time in the city, so book your hotel early and prepare to deal with many visitors.
