Big Spring sits at the intersection of U.S. Highway 87 and Interstate 20. The town gets its name from a "big spring" which served as a water source for the area's abundant wildlife — coyotes, buffalo, antelope, wolves, and wild mustangs. The spring often served as a campsite for explorers and travelers heading west.
The main attractions in Big Spring, Texas, are the beautiful city parks. Take a jog or a bike ride, hire a boat and cruise around the lake, or stay a little longer and enjoy the great outdoors at one of the many available camping sites. Whatever you like to do while away from home, Big Spring has something to make your visit worthwhile.
When would be the best time to visit Big Spring, TX?
Big Spring, like the rest of northern Texas, has a semi-arid climate with little rain and snowfall. June through August are the hottest season, so make sure you pack your sunscreen as temperatures can reach up to 100 degrees during the day. This is also the busiest time of year, so prices are higher and the attractions will be more crowded.
The shoulder seasons of March to May and September to November are often a better time to visit. The weather is still pleasant during the day, but you are more likely to get a good deal on a hotel, and the main attractions will be quieter. A visit in winter will avoid the crowds and keep your wallet happy, but be sure to pack warm clothes as nighttime temperatures can go below freezing, and there is occasional snowfall.
