The area incorporating modern-day South Haven was once occupied by the Potawatomi and Iroquois tribes. In 1833, Jay R. Monroe received a government land grant for 65 acres along the Lake Michigan shore. By the 1850s, settlers arrived and helped establish the first steam sawmills on the Black River. South Haven was officially incorporated as a village in 1869 and then again as a city in 1902.
Today, South Haven is home to a number of interesting cultural attractions and staple restaurants. Whatever your reason for visiting South Haven, you want to find the right accommodations that allow you to explore everything the shores of Lake Michigan have to offer.
