'And in the greyest town by the sea, the brightest spots of hope replenish lives of young men, as the darkest dashes of fear and loathing melt away!,
Theodor Storm, perhaps the most famous name to come out of the ranks of Husum, is quoted above, in a bid to show the kind of charisma his words have had on German literature.
For his beloved hometown, he originated the phrase 'the grey town by the sea', and this phrase has since been used countless number of times to describe many seaside towns and cities, from Perth to Seattle and Calcutta to Cape Town. The legacy, however, remains intact here in Husum, where art and culture meet in a great communion with innovation and leisure.
The reason that Husum has been mildly popular with tourists has much to do with its geographical location, than anything else. Located at the northernmost tip of Germany, Husum is easily lost upon travelers and tourists who choose to visit the best that Germany's mainland has to offer, conveniently turning a blind eye on some of the best specimens of nature's creation around Frisian Sea. Husum, quite unfortunately, happens to be one of them, thus never seeing the kind of tourism traffic it should be regularly seeing.
But the only thing we can do to promote Husum tourism is to spread the word “ and that's exactly what we are doing here. This quick-fire article describing Husum hotels and everything else you need to know before actually setting off on a journey will go a long way in that regard “ or so we hope!
Budget Hotels in Husum
Husum, as noted earlier, albeit in passing, is a rather unconventional and unappealing tourism destination. There are no huge lines for site-tickets and no marquee events claiming to attract thousands of people. It, at its very core, is still a small town by the sea where one can go and enjoy the nature, while trying to establish a sense of harmony between the self and the outer world.
In theory and thought, this may seem like a bit of a stretch. But take our word for it when we say that it indeed is possible to turn solitude into a bliss in a place like Husum, only if you know how to. Everything said and done, the bottom line remains that since there is an inherent lack of tourism resources here in Husum, finding cheap hotels can be a tough task. But the fact that whatever options that are available are more likely than not to be priced reasonably bodes well for the bank accounts of tourists!
There were a few cheap hotels that we ventured upon assessing, and the results of this assessment gave us two loud and clear winners in Hotel Stadthuss and Hotel Arlau. Both of these can best be described as prominent boutique hotels in Husum that are quite fairly priced for the kind of hospitality and amenities they extend to their patrons. Staying with either of them will surely not be the highlight of your trip, but it will certainly ensure that you have enough funds left in your kitty to forge new highlights of your choice!
Luxury Resorts and Hotels in Husum
North Sea and its winds pose a great existential problem for Husum, especially in winters. Dense fog, chilly winds and biting cold all come together to create a deep flowing gloom that inspires no confidence “ let alone joy “ in the eyes of the beholder. In such treacherous conditions, it would be strange to imagine that any sane hotel owner would dare enough to establish a fancy and luxury resort.
But the world is full of people with strange ideas and ambitions. It is this ambition that has allowed people to build and run luxury Husum hotels for a number of years now. While appreciating their spirit, it is still important for us to pick the ones that our readers will most likely be able to relate to and perhaps, even choose for their stay.
The only five star hotel in the city is the Best Western Theodor Storm Hotel. Named after the famed novelist that we quoted at the beginning of this article, this is a typical Best Western property that fuses convenience with luxury.
Thomas Hotel and Spa also comes close to matching Best Western Hotel facility by facility. It also scores some important brownie points by being more reasonably priced than the former!
