The first name given to the city was the Village of Midway. But then, in 1955, its citizens gathered to discuss incorporation, and the name Woodway was born. The word Woodway is a portmanteau of two surrounding areas - Woodland West and the Village of Midway. Since then, Woodway has grown significantly, from ~250 people in 1955 to ~9000 residents today.
One of Woodway's most prominent landmarks advised visiting is Carleen Bright Arboretum. It is named after a long-term mayor of Woodway. This project started in 1997 and grew into the center location for community events, art exhibits, and meetings. Carleen Bright Arboretum represents a 16-acre open space with botanical gardens, walking & biking trails, and a pond with fountains. Other than that, the greenhouse features two rentable rooms for various events, from private weddings and family celebrations to open community events.
Moreover, Carleen has two unique hallmarks. One of which is a replica of the original Whitehall church at the entrance. It welcomes visitors and serves as a Whitehall Tourist and Community Center. And the other is a meditation garden, which is a very organic addition to the location where nature is a centerpiece and a pretty incredible one-of-a-kind experience that not many public spaces have.
