"One of the first streets constructed"

Fremont Street, Las Vegas, was one of the first streets constructed after establishment of the city in 1905. Named for famed explorer John Charles Fremont, the avenue experienced many historic firsts. The now famous street was the first that underwent paving. Fremont acquired the first streetlight and bore three U.S. highway signs before completion of the roadways. Someone located on Fremont Street also received the first long distance phone call.
