'There is so much more to man than looks, wisdom and success. That moment when he realizes that what he does doesn't even matter in the long run is the moment when the man inside the man stands up to be tested.,
John Brunner, acclaimed novelist and essayist, framed this outstandingly mesmerizing sentence in his famous book 'Stand on Zanzibar'. In the hindsight, one might come to assume that the quote actually applies to those who have helped shape the Island of Zanzibar, as it, not too long ago, had no hopes of being a country that would attract outsiders for any positive reasons.
Today, however, Zanzibar has shrugged off the baggage of colonialism and slavery and stands proud as an independent part of Tanzania, home to people who believe in the ways of God and the power in their wrists. They have, quite remarkably, turned around a period of slump and converted it into an era of well-being “ an effort that can teach all of us a lesson in spirit and hard work.
Apart from the innate values that define Zanzibar, there are some pretty obvious and, in a strange sense, superficial qualities to life here in Zanzibar. Abundance of natural beauty that many parts of Africa have been blessed by Mother Nature with, Zanzibar bars no holds when it comes to baring it all to well-meaning visitors who wish to take these views “ via sights, sounds and memories “ back home, only to let other know of their existence.
So, to cut the long story short, it must be said that if you love to explore scenery along with local culture and strange customs, Zanzibar is the place for you to be at. Waste no time, pick up your maps and get going “ for Zanzibar is all in readiness to welcome you with wide open arms.
Budget Hotels in Zanzibar
As far as the history of tourism goes, travelers have strived hard to find suitable hotel and accommodation options that can provide them a necessary grade of comfort, all the while not hurting their pockets too much.
If you are looking for cheap hotels that can host you graciously during your planned stay in Zanzibar, look no farther than the Visitor's Inn Hotel in Jambiani. It is easily accessible, value for money and the management is friendly to say the least!
Coral Rock Hotel and Blue Oyster Hotel are two excellent alternatives, also in Jambiani, that can help you save big by helping you end your search for cheap hotels.
Luxury Spas, Resorts and Hotels in Zanzibar
Since it is primarily looked at as an island that is driven largely by its oceanic tourism, it is quite imperative that there is no dearth of luxury resorts, spas and hotels in Zanzibar.
Ranging from top notch global chain resorts to locally developed brands of luxury, you can find all sorts of pleasures and comforts within the confines of these luxury resorts. Agreed that not all tourists are up for splurging serious wads of cash for a few nights, it still remains a good preposition to spend at least some part of your tour at one of these luxury Zanzibar hotels and allow them to host you in style.
Talking of style, The Palms is one of the best luxury resorts you will get to stay at in the entire continent of Africa. It is not often that you get to see this authentically local brand of hospitality at relatively cheaper prices (in the context of luxury resorts).
Zanzi Resort and Anna of Zanzibar are two competent options to The Palms, as well. All three of these pretty much lie in the same zone of comfort, luxury and price ranges.
Things to See and Activities to Do in Zanzibar
When you finally make it to Zanzibar, it's your responsibility to make sure that you plan your trip well enough to make the most of it in such a way that you get to see as many sights and do as many activities as you can (of course, without rushing through them) while you are in Zanzibar.
Cheetah's Rock should probably occupy the top spot in that list. It is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Zanzibar, most famous for, well as its name might give it away, cheetahs. It's a fabulous sight to see these exquisitely feline and shy creatures in their natural habitat.
Nakupenda Beach is a treat for anyone who loves beaches and all sorts of activities associated with beaches. Pristine while and yellow sand stretches against the backdrop of serenely phlegmatic ocean water is a sight to behold.
There are quite a few adventure opportunities in Zanzibar for those who seek adrenaline rush. Scuba diving, snorkelling and paragliding are chief among them.
Finding Good Hotels Near The Airport
Zanzibar is a small community that is serviced by a single airport “ Zanzibar International Airport. It has only been four years since the airport was cleared to carry large freight planes and cargo planes, clearing its way for handling long distance international flights.
That said, it should also be mentioned that the bulk of traffic that it sees comes from Africa. But still, it remains a principal point of entry for tourists.
If you are looking for Zanzibar hotels that are located conveniently nearby this airport, you need to make sure that you are ready to compromise on a few fronts, especially comfort and luxury.
What is Local Transporation in Zanzibar Like?
Tourists would be surprised to know that there exists absolutely no public transport that is owned by the state in Zanzibar. Much of getting around is done either through a handful of private outfits posing as public transport or through private taxi cabs.
It will certainly be a cheaper option to hail a cab whenever you want to. You can also consult with your hotel management regarding the availability of rental cars, as many hotels in Zanzibar do have car rentals available at discounted rates for their guests.
