"History is the memory of time, the life of the dead and the happiness of the living." - Captain John Smith on history.

The seaside resort in Lincolnshire has a great location along the North Sea and is considered one of the best places to retire in the United Kingdom. A small natural harbor is protected by elevated dunes. The Danes were the first to reach the harbor and establish a settlement very close to the present resort. It turned into a fishing village until the railway was set up in 1875. Hotels in Skegness flourished when development increased in the late 19th century. The Earl of Scarbrough was the first to recognize potential to attract holidaymakers to sandy beach areas, and the planned resort took shape in 1877 attracting visitors. The city is featured in Your Magazine as one of the best seaside resorts for common residence for retirees.
