Property Description
Nestled between majestic Sleeping Ute Mountain and the sculpted red rocks of McElmo Canyon, Kelly Place Retreat & B&B has been attracting visitors since 1980. Explore prehistoric sites, including pueblo ruins and a fully restored kiva on the self-guided tour of Kelly Place property. Hike from here into Canyons of the Ancients National Monument on our northern border through the natural beauty of pinon-juniper canyons to remote cliff-dwellings. Relax in our courtyard, gazing at the 10,000-foot mountain or watching brightly colored birds while sipping a glass of local McElmo Canyon wine or a frosty beer on tap from our local brewery. We offer unique activities such as archaeologist-guided hikes to ruins, primitive pottery creation – from the mud to the finished piece, guided sweat-lodge, cultural programs by representatives of local Native American tribes, and lectures and lessons by local experts. Experience our relaxed southwestern hospitality, lush gardens, fruit trees and scrumptious home-style breakfasts. The adobe-style lodge features a comfortable lounge area with music, library, computer, dvds and games. Lodge rooms, cabins, RV and tent sites are available. Cabins have cooking and grill facilities, some with fireplace and outdoor firepit, or a whirlpool tub. The day lodge is available for events or retreats. For groups of 8 or more, we offer a custom designed program and all meals provided. School groups, hiking clubs, yoga retreats, silent meditation retreats and Elderhostel groups have all found what they were looking for at Kelly Place. The thousand square-foot conference room has a covered porch, enclosed courtyard and a fantastic view of Sleeping Ute Mountain. Our staff archaeologists, primitive pottery artists, and Native American teachers can work with your group to provide an immersion into local culture, past and present, including exploration of prehistoric ruins, archaeological excavation, Navajo rug weaving, primitive pottery creation and much more. We are family-friendly and reasonably priced.
