"Greetings exchanged in the narrow streets seemed to linger in the damp air like falling leaves,, are the amazing words from Athlone-born novelist John Broderick.
Set on the banks of the Shannon, the clamoring town of Athlone is a magnet for stream activity and wayfarers. The Shannon parts this previous army town in two, with most of the prominent organizations and administrations sitting on its eastern bank. Right next to the famed Athlone Castle, the western bank is a charming sight of curving boulevards, brilliantly painted houses, noteworthy bars, classical shops and that's just the beginning. The city has a unique charm of its own which captivates its visitors the moment they step into its mesmerizing territory.
