'What means to humanity the most is the concept of relative suffering. To be able to see others suffer may not always be pleasant, but the idea of one not suffering himself is certainly reassuring.”
Victor Hugo, probably the best known French author of all time, wrote these words while he was sent to Jersey Island to lead his life in exile. His words, considering the context of the situation he found himself in, sound much more tragic and introspection-worthy, today than ever.

It would also be interesting to see if the place he wrote these words in, Jersey, itself had any impact on the genius of Hugo. There's every reason to believe that it must have been the case, since many other artists and influential people have commonly – albeit willingly, unlike Hugo – taken to Jersey in order to set their lives in order and free of chaos.

But quite contradictorily, Jersey itself is chaos in many forms. Located in the narrow channel that separates England from France – just down south of Channel Islands – Jersey's history has been equally influenced by English and French ways of life, making it greatly turbulent.

Officially known as Bailiwick of Jersey, the island is a crown dependency of English monarchy, meaning that it holds its own powers, despite sharing the currency and national anthem with the UK.

The Island of Jersey – the one we are about to discuss in this article – is the major constituent of the bailiwick, accounting for much of population and infrastructure. It is also well known around the world as a beautiful holiday destination full of beaches, water activity options and great accommodation options.

We have only one solitary advice to offer to readers who are interested in knowing more about tourism, culture, weather and hotels in Jersey: Read on!

Fair and Square: Cheap Hotels in Jersey

Since Jersey used the Great British Pound as its official currency, much of Jersey's tourism can be easily compared to its English counterpart. That said, it should also be mentioned in no uncertain terms that you are going to find it difficult to find really – and when we say really, we mean it – cheap hotels around Jersey because of the fact that it is often seen as an expensive holiday destination.

Shakespeare Coastal Hotel in St Clement is our top favorite when the discussion revolves around budget Jersey hotels. It has got pretty much everything a budget hotel might want to – good looks, warm reception and round the clock service with spacious rooms.

In St Clement, Samares Coast Hotel provides a good alternative to tourists who wish to have the feel of staying at a luxury hotel, without spending too much money for the same.

Norfolk Hotel and Stafford Hotel are similar cheap hotels in St Helier that will never let you down – economically and otherwise!

Seeking Luxury on The Jersey Shore

If one is to believe what the accounts of frequent tourists and globe trotters say, the best way to enjoy one's holiday retreats is by staying at a luxury resort or a hotel that takes the meaning of the word 'hospitality' to a completely new level, transcending all the boundaries of luxury and indulgence.

For tourists who are young at heart, Jersey has much to put on their platter. With over 20 five star resorts vying for the attention of potential guests, options are in plentiful and the only thing one has to do is to choose wisely. But worry not, that's precisely the point of this guide!

Among all luxury hotels in Jersey, the one that stands out well above in reputation, class and value for money has to be Haule Manor. Operating for years now, it has set the gold standard of luxury in the region, making sure that a loyal base of returning tourists has been established by now.

Greenhills Country Hotel and Hotel La Place are also great in the hospitality department. Their prices, however, may warrant another consideration.

What Are The Alternatives to These Hotels?

There exist many alternatives to these conventional Jersey hotels that we have talked about so far. Excluding both the extremes of the hotel spectrum, one can concentrate upon the center that fuses affordability and luxury.

Holiday rentals (locally known as holiday homes) are easy to find in Jersey, as many of the residential building in Jersey have been built with the view of potential rent prospects. They are often more comfortable, affordable and flexible, as many guests can lodge, as opposed to standard hotel rooms.

Furthermore, they are even more cost effective in the long run, making sure that you don't end up spending more cash than you really have to.

Sightseeing in Jersey

The most astonishing sight in Jersey is the partially built war tunnel that was supposed to provide an easy passage to French and English army units during the Second World War.

In August, Jersey dazzles in the aura of flowers as the 'Battle of Flowers' festival commences. To see unimaginable colors, shapes and sizes of flowers from around Europe is truly a thrilling experience. Couple it with the Moonlight Parade that follows up next and you have the recipe for a perfect week of relaxation.

Elizabeth Castle off St Aubin's Bay is another hauntingly beautiful sight. When the tide is low and the ground is dry, one can easily access the castle on foot, marking a surreal experience.

Getting Around Locally in Jersey

Local transportation in Jersey is not all that bad for its small size. Two official bus networks operate throughout the island, easing things up for tourists who do not wish to hire private cars.

Those who don't have much problems with car rentals can take advantage of Jersey's virtually no-hassle traffic by renting a car on a daily basis. Taxis can also be booked on such basis, if you don't carry driver's permit applicable in the UK.

To sum things up, it can be said that Jersey presents a myriad of opportunities of exploration and joy to tourists who wish to visit!
