Georgetown, South Carolina, is an amazing historical destination. Historians and scholars believe the very first European immigrants settled here in 1526 — although that is a matter that others dispute. Nevertheless, Georgetown is the third official city in South Carolina, so the city is full of buildings and artifacts of historical importance. More from this guide...

Visiting Georgetown is truly an adventure. As the second largest seaport in the state, it is a great place to relax, and the local seafood restaurants are some of the best in the country. It is a great place to come for a getaway by yourself, or you can bring your whole family for a great vacation. If you are visiting for business, there are lots of things you can do after finishing work.

Hit one of the many great bar and grills in the area. It is a great way to enjoy all Georgetown has to offer, from the great people to the delicious cuisine courtesy of the city's convenient coastal location. Even if seafood is not your thing the lively local spots serve plenty of fish free dishes for you to enjoy. During the day, there are several great museums to visit, and the Georgetown Historic District has 49 historic buildings with a variety of interesting shops, restaurants, and businesses to explore.

Best Times to Visit Georgetown, SC

The weather in Georgetown is pretty nice year round. However, the summer weather is hot, and during the winter, it does get pretty cold. There is definitely an ideal time to visit the city with southern charm. If you want to take advantage of creepy ghost tours and historic walks around town, it is best to come during the pleasant spring to early summer, specifically April 6 through June 3.

After those months, it becomes pretty hot, with daytime temperatures reaching the upper 90s — and the humidity makes the high temps feel even hotter. Fall is short in South Carolina, so there is not long to enjoy the fall weather. If you do not mind the colder weather, you can safely visit during the winter because the area does not get much snow. Temperatures are cold, but it rarely freezes.

Nights are often foggy in the seaside town due to the high humidity levels and close proximity to the coast. Make sure your fog lights are working properly and bring a raincoat or umbrella if you plan on visiting in July, August, or September, which are the rainiest months of the year.
