When the railroad started to emerge, Marvin Kent encouraged the Atlantic and Great Western Railroad to build maintenance shops in the area, and the town changed its name to Kent to honor his efforts. Today, Kent is known as the home of Kent State University. No matter what brings you to the area, you'll find plenty of hotels that fit your budget and offer the amenities you need.
When should you visit Kent, OH?
Kent sees four distinct seasons throughout the year, so deciding on the best time to visit depends entirely on what interests you. Summer is by far the most popular time to explore the area. The months between June and August see average daily highs in the mid- to upper 80s Fahrenheit. While these temperatures make it nice to get outside and explore Kent, keep in mind that the area is also susceptible to thunderstorms during this time of year. Also, if you're looking for a good hotel, it will be hard to find one during these months.
On the other hand, if you plan your trip to Kent in the fall, you'll start to see some good deals on hotel rooms. Average highs in the area start out in the mid-70s in September and drop to the low 50s by November. Along with lower hotel prices and comfortable weather, another good reason to check out Kent in the fall is to enjoy some of the stunning leaf colors.
While Kent isn't part of the Lake Erie snowbelt, it can sometimes receive lake-effect snow during the winter. From December to February, the area also sees average highs in the 30s and between 10 and 12 inches of snowfall each month. While winter weather in Kent isn't always ideal, if you're searching for the lowest hotel prices of the year or you want to enjoy some of the area's winter sports, this is the best season to visit.
Spring is another sweet spot for visiting Kent. While average highs in March start out in the upper 40s, by May they're into the lower 70s. Plus, hotels typically don't begin raising rates until late May. Just keep in mind that Kent State University has commencement ceremonies in May, which brings many families to the area and fills hotel rooms quickly.
