Mulberry didn't always have an official name. It got its name from the mulberry tree where the train stopped to let off passengers and the mail. The main occupation of the dwellers then was logging until they struck phosphate rock in the Peace River in 1886.
Mining phosphate transformed the town into a stable community of miners. The town is part of the Bone Valley, the most prolific phosphate mining region in the world. Now, Mulberry is home to Badcock Home Furniture, which has 365 stores all over the southeastern U.S.
The Mulberry Cultural Center hosts several art and cultural events year round, and the town is the location of the 334-acre Alafia River Reserve. This reserve is a wetland rich in biodiversity, beautiful picnic spots, and hiking trails. Mulberry's Butterfly Garden is an enchanting little park where the family can have a good time on the weekend, and Lake Whidden Park provides recreational facilities and is a wonderful spot for water sports lovers.
The Mulberry Skate Park is a great playground for adults and their kids. After a hectic day exploring the city, you can refill at many of the restaurants in town or cool off at a club. Whether you are spending a night or want to learn more about the phosphate mining industry, a comfortable hotel room can make a huge difference during your stay in Mulberry, Florida.
