"Review in all but construction workers and check out girl."
Overall Score1.0/ 5
I first called the 800# provided by the website. Unfortunately it was important to find lodgings in West Sac. to get us off and back on the highway without driving around Sacramento any more than necessary. I was informed I would receive both my Senior and Rewards discount. I booked a double queen room for my Daughter and myself. The final cost was $182.00 for a Sunday night to Monday morning stay. That alone is very high for West Sacramento. I stayed at The Plaza Resort in Downtown Reno, Nv. for $136.00 a night with amenities far exceeding those in this Holiday Inn. We began our journey at 7am and when we finally arrived we had driven from NV. over Highway 70 to Butte Co. to visit the Fire Site of Paradise and Magalia California. As we drove into the Town Proper Fire Site there were hundreds if not thousands of standing fireplaces with chimneys, thousands of burned car frames and foundations. .unbelievably tragic devastation everywhere one looked. The whole family of Warren Lessard who had died in his home from the fire PG and E caused, including his Daughter, our Daughter, whom I was traveling with, met in Magalia. It was necessary to use the two of the four wheel vehicles driven by his siblings to get to the home he built, literally with his two hands on the very edge of the cliff face. He was an artisan and lived as very, very few humans do in this or the last century. We were forced to drive the two miles at about five MPH to get to the actual site. It was about 105º and because the trees had burned there was absolutely no shade whatsoever. We remained there for a few hours to memorialize his life and spread his ashes. I mixed some with our youngest Daughter's ashes who had died at 27 and placed them in the wire garden cage that somehow survived. After stopping for lunch with the family, we drove back to Sacramento ( an hour and 45 minutes ) as planned rather than drive another three hours over the hills and valleys in the physically and emotionally exhausted state we knew we would be in, hence the Hotel reservation. First, we walked into a construction site. There was about 8sq. ft. of space where there wasn't drywall, hanging plastic, exposed wiring and plumbing, construction dust etc. The man who was working the desk was surly at best. It was obvious from the bored, aggressive disdain he showed toward us that he hates his job. When he had me swipe my C.Card I mentioned that I wasn't given the discounts I was promised. He very curtly and with finality said that had to be handled through the apparent third party I had made the reservation with. So, we finally get our bags onto a portable luggage cart, no mention of any type of help of course. We get to the room and it hadn't been turned over. The TV was on and it looked and smelled to us as though someone was in the shower. Had I known at the time that the water pipes whine like a boiling teapot for the entire time one is showering, being the room was tiny we would have just assumed a mistake. So, we drag the ridiculously filthy cart that wouldn't roll back down and tell the guy. My Daughter mentioned it felt as though someone was gong to come strolling out of the shower any moment and he barked that no one was in the room. He had the gall to say "I guess we will have to find you another room! " So, that takes another 10 minutes and I have to reiterate how we longed to get the clothes that were by now stuck to us, off. We finally get the never to be used again cart into the "clean" room. All seemed fine. The air conditioning worked surprisingly well considering the experience so far. After we went for dinner and were, at last able to lay down on the beds and the smell of mold and filth from the pillows and mattress surrounded me. The sheets looked perfectly clean. If it had been a different situation I would have, at that moment, 10 PM or not, found another hotel. I have stayed in Hostel's and Pensione's in European Countries that were built in the 13th Century that one might expect to smell a little old that were spotlessly cleaned, with refreshingly scented beds, indicating cleanliness. The "Free Breakfast" from 6:30 to 9:30 a.m. was sparse. We went down at 7am. Out of the elevator right into jackhammers, saws, staple guns etc. no more than three feet away, without so much as the plastic that was there the night before. One young woman was carrying three plates high with 20 of the 25 muffins available and walked right by the reservation desk. So, we got some coffee and a little of what was left. That sums up my experience there. So, prox. 12 bucks an hour for the 16 hours we stayed.

"Everything was great, but the temperature of my room."
Overall Score4.0/ 5
Overall my experience was good at this hotel. Checkin was easy and convenient, the room was clean and the breakfast was nice. My only problem was it was very cold out and when my girlfriend and I got in the room, it was freezing. So cold we had to turn the heat on and leave for awhile. Overall, my only suggestion is if you are giving someone a room for the night, simply check the temp to make sure it's comfortable.
