Below are the verified reviews from guests that we have booked recently:
"Great Location, Attentive Staff, Affordable and Charming!"
Overall Score4.0/ 5
Our company team of 10 stayed in the North Tower, economy rooms. The rooms were better than expected for the price. They were very clean. We enjoyed how you could feel/see the history of the hotel. The location was PERFECT. The staff was very kind and attentive. The hotel itself was absolutely beautiful! There is so much history in this hotel, it was impossible not to love it!

"A grand old hotel but not in our wing."
Overall Score3.0/ 5
The Congress Plaza is a beautiful, old grand hotel in a great location across from Grant Park. However, because we booked with a Travel Sherlock discount, they put us in "the Buckingham Tower," which is a just plain old six story annex with clean but tired rooms, hallways and doors.

"Okay, but Never again."
Overall Score3.0/ 5
The hotel is old and has a lot of history. More than what I knew about. Our room had NO VIEW. We had a view of four brick walls when looking out the window. The room needs updating, some color to relax it and the beds and pillows were horrible, extremely hard. Not at all what I would have thought. Now, I did not know this place was haunted and the 12th floor is the most haunted floor. It is exactly were we ended up, rm 1276. At 1am it because freezing cold, the alarm clock starting playing orchestra music. We turned it off, at two it played again, at three again and we unplugged it. In the morning I woke up very nauseous and with a fever. I was 100% fine before going to bed. We went to urgent care, they ran several tests and all was negative. The doctor could not figure out why the fever. I'm not blaming it on the hotel but had I known, I would have NOT allowed them to room me on the 12th floor. For me, never again.

"Highs and lows."
Overall Score4.0/ 5
The bell man and concierge were very helpful. The room was attractive, rug had been vacuumed and toilet, sink and mirrors were clean. However, there were five or six long strands of hair on the bathroom floor, the tub drain was clogged and the fan vent was very dirty and ineffective. This was most likely the reason the bathroom blow dryer was.

"Paper thin walls."
Overall Score3.0/ 5
The lobby is beautiful and rooms look nice, but the walls are paper thin. We travelled during the NBA All Star Weekend unfortunately without knowing. There was a party on the 3rd floor and we could hear the music to an almost perfect clarity on the 8th floor. There was also a noise coming from the heating system or something else all night. Don't book this hotel if you're a light sleeper. The room size was good and the bed was comfortable, but the bathroom needed some TLC.

"You say "historic". I say old."
Overall Score2.0/ 5
I enjoy history just as much as the next person. History should be preserved as much as possible whenever possible. except perhaps in hotels. The hotel has been around since the 1800's. I'm fairly certain all of the beds and the carpet have been around since then as well. The air conditioner doesn't let you change the temperature, only the fan speed. The beds were hard as rocks. The pillows were not so great. The building smelled like moldy cheese. And just in case anyone reading this just thinks I'm a complainer, I think this is the only negative review I've *ever* written about a hotel. Back to my rant: there are no microwaves in any of the rooms. I called downstairs and asked for a fan, which they brought up to me. I plugged it into an outlet that had four plugs, only one of which was in use (for the tv). Within 15 minutes, the outlet overloaded and both the TV and the fan shut off. It took another 15 minutes for them to come back on. About the only thing nice about this place is the staff. And I feel terrible for them because they haven to hear the "your hotel sucks compared to all other hotels" thing all of the time. I didn't say anything to them myself because I'm sure they hear it enough from others. I figured I'd reserve my thoughts for a review later. Do yourself a favor and pay a little more to stay at another downtown hotel.

"Oldie"
Overall Score1.0/ 5
My personal opinion about this hotel is horrible. The hotel smells of mold mildew. The ducts have not been cleaned. They have not refurbished the hotel. They painted over rust. They have not updated shower, bathrooms, towels. It was a horrible experience. We hv to change rooms because of the most horrible hotel I've ever been to. The price needs to come down just for those reasons. I could've stayed at a motel and gotten better quality than this.

"Good and not so good."
Overall Score4.0/ 5
Very stately upon entering the main lobby. Takes you back in time to grandeur era. then. we entered our room. It was somewhat a letdown seeing a mixed setting of plastic type desks, tables, electrical wires running along the baseboard. The bathtub was a hazard waiting to happen. No grab bars and the slope of the tub in the back was pure danger zone material. Views out the windows was fantastic but not sure I would return for another stay.

"Good price, beautiful hotel,no TV reception and hard bed and pillows."
Overall Score3.0/ 5
We couldn't change the temperature in the room. It was so hot but it never changed temps even when we put it on coldest. Would loved to have had PPV or Netflix and more plug in's near the bed for iphones. The gift shop had items that we outdated and it was cluttered. The Rafael Steakhouse had one waiter so our breakfast took about 30 minutes to get to our table. The other restaurant was not open. The lady who was at the front desk never smiled or spoke to us. Won't be eating there again. Good location, great price and a beautiful quiet hotel and bell service was good, especially the head bellman nice fellow otherwise.
