"The World Capital of Peace"
Assisi, the birthplace of St. Francis, is the world capital of peace. The amount of religious history of this city can only be compared to that of Rome. The Basilica of San Francesco comprises of an Upper Church and a Lower Church. One on top of the hill and one at the bottom and a crypt that contains the remains of Saint Francis. No matter the distance between the two churches, it is up a very steep hill so catching a local bus is recommended. One day was enough to see the sights off Assisi, including Piazza Santa Chiara, the temple of Minerva in Piazza del Comune and the excavated Roman Forum.
