The Winnipeg center is about the area of Canwest Place and the area of Shaw Park.

Winnipeg is a gorgeous Canadian city known for its intriguing architecture and green spaces. The city has lots of concerts and festivals as a result. The historic site known as "the Forks" sits where two rivers intersect. In other parts of the city, old warehouses have been transformed into business space and feature shops and restaurants. This Manitoba city also has a district full of early 20th-century architecture. Called "The Exchange," this district features lots of galleries and is fun to walk through. To make the most of your Winnipeg visit, stop by the Assiniboine Park and Zoo, The Forks, and the Canadian Museum of Human Rights. More from this guide...

When to Visit Winnipeg, MB

Like most cities in the north, the best weather in Winnipeg is during summer. Temperatures are in the high 70s and low 80s, which means gorgeous, sunny weather without overwhelming heat. Though it rains the most in summer, you can expect more tourists during this season. Winter temperatures are often below freezing even at midday, which might scare off some travelers from the southern U.S. However, fall and spring feature beautiful weather in the 60s and distinct seasonal changes, plus less rain.

Best Winnipeg, MB Hotel Discounts

The Radisson Hotel Winnipeg Downtown offers a 10 percent discount for AAA members, CAA members, and senior citizens. That can save you more than $15 on standard room rates, depending on the season. A stay at the Radisson puts you in downtown Winnipeg near the MTS Centre and Plaza at the Forks. This is an eco-friendly hotel offering pillowtop beds, flat-screen TVs, and refrigerators in each room. The lobby is cozy with coffee and tea plus a fireplace. Getting around is a snap, thanks to the free airport transportation and free area shuttle. Rooms with accessible bathrooms are available.

Government and military personnel save up to $20 on the best available room rate at the Best Western Plus Downtown Winnipeg. This three-star downtown property offers complimentary amenities including an airport shuttle, Wi-Fi, and newspapers in the lobby. For your convenience, you can store your luggage with the hotel, and get dry cleaning services, too. Express check-in and check-out keep you from missing any of your travel plans. Accessible bathrooms are available. Just talk to the 24-hour front desk.

Thankfully, finding value hotels in Winnipeg is far more likely than winning the lottery. With prices hovering around $100 a night (sometimes less, sometimes more, depending on the season) you'll feel totally pampered without stressing over spending.

Alt Hotel Winnipeg is a three-star downtown hotel with unique, urban-chic interior decor. Rooms feature walls that mix paint and concrete, with track lighting and enough space for families to spread out. Huge mirrors in the bathrooms make getting ready a breeze in the morning. A multilingual staff, concierge, and ticket booking assistance make your life as a traveler so much easier. This smoke-free property also offers free Wi-Fi, dry cleaning services, a restaurant which serves breakfast, and a 24-hour fitness center.

At Holiday Inn & Suites Winnipeg Downtown, you'll find a three-star hotel experience often for less than $100 a night. When you arrive, treat yourself to coffee and tea from the lobby, or head to the bar for a drink. The front desk is 24 hours, so someone will always be there to greet you, no matter what time you arrive. Free Wi-Fi and express check-out add convenience to your stay, while an indoor pool and spa tub add relaxation. Use the on-site laundry facilities, or have the hotel take care of your dry cleaning.

Walk to the Canadian Museum for Human Rights From These Winnipeg, MB Hotels

The Canadian Museum for Human Rights features an ultra-modern exterior housing explorations of human rights all over the globe, with a focus on Canada. It's a major attraction in Winnipeg and throughout Manitoba, and travelers to this region will want to stop by. Get a hotel within walking distance so you can see the museum as soon as you arrive.

Winnipeg's Inn at the Forks is a two-minute walk from the museum. This 3.5-star downtown hotel is the picture of modern luxury and minimalism. Exposed fireplaces and wall-sized prints decorate the common areas. Rooms contain warm colors, simple furniture, and lots of space. The Humphry Inn & Suites is also downtown and is about five minutes away on foot from the Canadian Museum for Human Rights. The Humphry Inn & Suites is a bit more affordable than the Inn at the Forks, and though the location is a bit short on parking, you'll love the rest of the amenities. Mornings are perfect with a trip to the fitness center and a free breakfast. Then, use the complimentary Wi-Fi to plan your day. Don't forget a visit to the indoor pool and steam room.

Both of these hotel properties offer accessible rooms. Both accessible bathrooms and in-room accessibility are available at Inn at the Forks. The Humphry Inn & Suites has those as well, plus a roll-in shower option.

Winnipeg is a beautiful city worth visiting at any time of year. Canadians certainly know how to make the most of winter, but you should visit during the season you feel most comfortable being outside, so you can explore all of the city's outdoor spaces. With the perfect hotel waiting for you at the end of each night, your Winnipeg trip might just be the best one you take all year.

Burton Cummings the musician once said, "You could live in Winnipeg a thousand years and not meet Ringo, Paul McCartney, or Bob Dylan."

The large Canadian city and capital of Manitoba has a great location at the junction of Assiniboine and Red rivers. The aboriginals used the area for trading activities before French settlers arrived and established a port in the 18th century. Hotels in Winnipeg attract visitors to the many festivals and sporting events organized through a well-set transportation and railway hub. Trading along the red River increased, and with measures taken to prevent floods in the flat valley, the city has developed into a diversified economic base with great interest in preserving cultural heritage and promoting the performing arts.
