The capital of Morocco, Rabat, is located on the Atlantic Ocean at the mouth of the river Bou Regreg. The name of the city literally means "Fortified Place". The city has just over a million people. As Rabat is an administrative city, it does have many shopping districts and residential neighborhoods, but history and culture lovers can also find just what they need: Rabat has a few official galleries and an archaeological museum. Both modern and reserved, the city has many fascinating historic sites such as pictureque Kasbah of the Udayas, built in the mid 12 th century. The heart of the city consists of three parts: the Medina (old town); the Oudayas and Hassan both located to meet the Bou Regreg; and the Atlantic Ocean.
