When to Visit Starkville, MS

The best time to visit Starkville is during fall, when the college kids come into town and add a vibrance to the city that's unmatched. It's also the start of Mississippi State University's college football season, which is nearly a religion in Starkville. The weather remains nice throughout most of the season with highs ranging from the mid-60s to the mid-80s and lows from 40 to 60 degrees. If you're attending a football game or walking around downtown, make sure to grab a jacket to stay comfortable. Hotel demand is at its highest, so make sure to book early.

If you want to beat the crowds and experience Starkville without all the congestion, head to the city during the summer. The population drops to about 20,000, and you can explore the area without waiting in line at restaurants or bumping into people on sidewalks. The temperatures top out in the 90s nearly every day from June to August, with a relieving low of about 70 at night. This is the perfect time to snag a deal at a hotel due to low demand.

Winter can get downright cold in Starkville compared to other places in the South, with temperatures ranging from the 30s to the 50s. Precipitation is at its highest in winter, so aside from bringing a winter jacket, you may also want to get a rain coat. During college basketball season, hotel demand can go up, so book a hotel in advance.

Spring is a beautiful time of year in Starkville as temperatures hang between 50 and 70 degrees. Mississippi State baseball is well attended during this time, but there are other events taking place that are unaffiliated with the university. Finding a hotel room isn't all that difficult during this time, and you'll find a better selection of accommodations at prices you'll love.

Starkville being a college town naturally had a lot of places to eat.
