Port Elgin was settled in 1849 by Lachlan McLean. He built a shanty, then ran a tavern, serving settlers and sailors who were passing through the port. Port Elgin looked like an interesting city to wander through and the surrounding area looked beautiful. Unfortunately due to time constraint was unable to discover much but it looked promising for a return visit.
