Central park is nestled in between busy streets and a busy neighbourhood. Whether you are traveling by car or the Skytrain it is very easy to pass by the park without really knowing it is there. It isn't until you start to explore one of the many well marked trails that you discover how grand the park actually is. You'll be amazed by the immense trees in the park as well as the many attractions. There is a recently renovated kids play area (which is fantastic), tennis courts, ball diamond, horseshoe pitches, picnic sites and a fitness circuit around the park. On top of all that there is Burnaby's largest and most popular outdoor pool, open between May 25 and September 7. The park is home home to the Vancouver Whitecaps soccer team with it's Swangard Stadium located in the park. Everytime I go to Central park I seem to discover something new. Whether you go for an hour or the whole day, Central park will be fun and relaxing at the same time, a great escape from the busy city. Trees, trees, glorious trees! Founded in 1891, this 90-hectare urban park is notable for its immense douglas fir, western hemlock, poplar and maple groves. In fact, if you’re curious about why logging dominated the region’s economy for so long, here’s a chance to experience a magnificent coastal rainforest just minutes from Metrotropolis at Metrotown. Central Park is a serene oasis amidst the go-go pace of city living. A network of well-marked trails makes it a great spot for exploring the forest by foot. Geese and ducks flock to the park’s two ponds. Gardeners test their knowledge of varietals at the pretty Earl and Jennie Lohn Perennial Garden. And then there’s the award-winning Variety Park Playground, an integrated play area that provides fun and challenges for children of all ages and abilities. The park is known for its excellent sports and recreation facilities. Tennis courts, outdoor swimming pool, horseshoe pitch and a pitch-and-putt golf course are popular draws. Anchoring the park is Swangard Stadium, home to the Vancouver Whitecaps soccer team and host facility for many sporting events, including Olympic and World Cup-qualifying matches featuring Canada’s national soccer teams

With its asymmetrical arrangement of rocks and plants, its winding paths and corridors, and the vistas that overlook its courtyards, the Garden emulates the rhythms of nature. Ming dynasty scholars, the elite of their time, lived and worked in their garden, sharing these enchanting spaces with friends and family of all ages. Chinatown
Vancouver BC
~7.73 miles from Richmond city center
Hotels Close to Chinatown
Chinatown in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, is the Western Hemisphere's second largest Chinatown in area (after San Francisco), and third largest in population (after San Francisco and New York City). Centred on Pender Street, it is surrounded by Gastown and the Downtown Financial and Central Business Districts to the west, the Downtown Eastside to the north, the remnant of old Japantown to the northeast, and the residential neighbourhood of Strathcona to the east. The approximate street borders of Chinatown's commercial area are the alley between Pender Street and Hastings, Georgia, Gore, and Taylor Streets,[2] although its unofficial boundaries extend well into the rest of the Downtown Eastside. Main, Pender, and Keefer Streets are the principal areas of commercial activity. Due to the large ethnic Chinese presence in Vancouver—especially represented by multi-generation Chinese Canadians and first-generation immigrants from Hong Kong, the city has been referred to as "Hongcouver" (a term considered derogatory by some)[3]. Chinatown remains a popular tourist attraction, and is one of the largest historic Chinatowns in North America. However, it went into decline as newer members of Vancouver's Cantonese Chinese community dispersed to other areas of the metropolis. It has been more recently overshadowed by the newer Chinese immigrant business district along No. 3 Road in the Vancouver suburb of Richmond, which had been an Anglo-Saxon bastion until the 1980s. Many affluent Hong Kong and Taiwanese immigrants have moved there since the late 1980s, coinciding with the increase of Chinese-ethnic retail and restaurants in that area. This new area is designated the "Golden Village" by the City of Richmond, which met resistance to the proposed renaming of the area to "Chinatown" both from merchants in Vancouver's Chinatown and also from non-Chinese residents and merchants in Richmond itself. Chinatown was once known for its neon signs but like the rest of the city lost many of the spectacular signs to changing times and a new sign bylaw passed in 1974. The last of these was the Ho Ho sign (which showed a rice bowl and chop sticks) which was removed in 1997. Ongoing efforts at revitalization include efforts by the business community to improve safety by hiring private security; looking at new marketing promotions and introducing residential units into the neighbourhood by restoring and renovating some of the heritage buildings. Current focus is on the restoration and adaptive reuse of the distinctive Association buildings.

This church would be an Anglican church but would be more protestant and evangelical than the already existing ‘high’ Anglican church, St. James located on the east side of the city. Several months later the first rector of the newly named Christ Church was appointed by the Bishop of New Westminster and the first service was held, without a church building, on December 23, 1888 at 720 Granville Street.
