Veteran's Field is the home field of the Chatham Anglers baseball team. It is located on Depot Road in Chatham, Massachusetts, USA, on Cape Cod. Veteran's Field has a capacity of approximately 2,000 people; however, much of the seating is informal around the perimeter of the field on grass or lawn chairs and the park can accommodate close to 8,500 people informally. This is achieved because of where Veteran's Stadium is situated. The park sits in a natural bowl which forms a natural stadium around the stadium in addition to the permanent seating. Admission to Veteran's Field is free; however, to offset this are donations and a raffle held by the Anglers for small prizes. The stadium originally utilized a local high school building adjacent to the field as a clubhouse area for the Athle...

Chatham Lighthouse, known as Twin Lights prior to 1923, is a lighthouse in Chatham, Massachusetts, near the "elbow" of Cape Cod. The station was established in 1808, the second light on Cape Cod. To distinguish it from Highland Light, the first Cape Cod light, and to act as a range, twin octagonal 40ft (12m) wooden towers were built. They were on skids so that they could be moved to keep them in line with the entrance channel as it shifted. Samuel Nye was appointed as the first Keeper of the Chatham Lights by President Jefferson on October 7, 1808.

Stage Harbor Light (also known as Harding Beach Light), built in 1880, is the youngest of the Cape Cod Light Stations. Chatham is the entrance to Stage Harbor, important to fishing and commercial traffic of the time. The light was installed to complement the light at Chatham, which one of the foggiest points on the East Coast. The tower was built of curved iron plates lined with brick - identical to the "Chatham Twins." A fifth-order Fresnel lens was installed. The light was attached to a keeper's house similar to the one at Mayo Beach. During Prohibition, liquor was stored under the floorboards in the passage between the light and keeper's house. During a surprise inspection, the inspector noted the loose floorboards, but simply told the keeper to repair them! An automated light ...

Celebrating more than 80 seasons, the Cape Playhouse is proud to be America's Oldest Professional Summer Theatre. Californian Raymond Moore spent several summers in Provincetown where he was involved in painting scenery, writing plays and acting in theatre there. His vision, however, was to have a theatre of his own - a smart, sophisticated summer theatre, which would bring Broadway to Cape Cod. So in 1927, he bought a 19th century former Unitarian Meeting House for $200 and had it moved to 3 1/2 acres of pasture land fronting the Old Kings Highway in Dennis and converted it into a theatre. The original pews, now with cushions, still serve as seats. The opening performance on July 4, 1927 was The Guardsman, starring Basil Rathbone. Over the years, Moore attracted many big name ...

Nauset Lighthouse
Cape Cod MA

Hotels Close to Nauset Lighthouse
The Nauset Lighthouse is not only known as a symbol for Cape Cod Potato Chips, but as one of the Cape’s most recognizable landmarks. Over the years, the community has gone to great lengths to construct and preserve this iconic beacon. It all began in 1836 when 21 residents of Eastham contacted the Boston Marine Society requesting the construction of a lighthouse on Nauset Beach. Countless vessels had been lost off the shores of Eastham and it was apparent that a beacon was required to safely bring ships into harbor. Congress approved the request and determined three wooden lighthouses would be constructed at the site to distinguish the location from the single light north at Truro and the double lights south at Chatham. And so the lighthouses known at the Three Sisters were erected. ...

Hotels Close to Sandy Neck Lighthouse
Barnstable Harbor was an important port for fishing and trade in the early 1800's. The first Sandy Neck (or Beach Point) Lighthouse was constructed in 1827 - a lantern on the roof of the keepers house. The first keeper was Joseph Nickerson. In 1857, the old lighthouse was replaced by a brick tower (painted white). A new keeper's house was built in 1880. In 1887, it was reported by the Lighthouse Board (Clark, p. 81): "The brick tower, being badly cracked, was strengthened with two iron hoops and six staves." These repairs are still visible today. Select an image to enlarge the light station is at center By 1931, the importance of Barnstable harbor had diminished, and sand had built up at the tip of Sandy Neck, making the lighthouse's position less important. Hotels Close to Sandy Neck Beach
Hovering above Barnstable Harbor and the 4,000-acre Great Salt Marsh, Sandy Neck Beach stretches some 6 mi across a peninsula that ends at Sandy Neck Light. The beach is one of the Cape's most beautiful—dunes, sand, and sea spread endlessly east, west, and north. The marsh used to be harvested for salt hay; now it's a haven for birds, which are out and about in the greatest numbers in morning and evening, during low tide, and during spring and fall migrations. The lighthouse, standing a few feet from the eroding shoreline at the tip of the neck, has been out of commission since 1952. It was built in 1857 to replace an 1827 light, and it used to run on acetylene gas. It's now privately owned and no longer accessible from the beach. If you like to hike, ask at the ranger station for a trail ...

Things To Do in Chatham: Wood End Lighthouse #27 of 30 Things To Do in Chatham
Wood End Lighthouse
Cape Cod MA
~25.53 miles from Chatham city center
Hotels Close to Wood End Lighthouse
The third lighthouse in Provincetown was built in 1872, between Race Point and Long Point - at the elbow of the sandbar which surrounds Provincetown harbor. The light was designed as an exact replica of Long Point Light. It was originally painted brown, and housed a fifth-order Fresnel lens. In 1896, a second keeper's house, storage shed, and oil house were added. A fog bell in a tower was added in 1902. By 1872, most of the community at the tip of the Cape was gone. However, as reported to the Lighthouse Board in 1880 (Clark, p.126) "The keeper of this station is much annoyed by the stench and flies coming from the fish-oil works located between this and Long Point Station." In 1911, a breakwater was built across the upper end of the harbor - this allowed much more direct access to ...
Things To Do in Chatham: Head of the Meadow Beach #28 of 30 Things To Do in Chatham
Head of the Meadow Beach
Provincetown MA
~25.71 miles from Chatham city center
Hotels Close to Head of the Meadow Beach
In Short – Truro has some of the most beautiful beaches on the cape, and Head of the Meadow is no exception. It actually comprises two beaches; one is operated by the town, the other by the Cape Cod National Seashore. The latter is the only one with a lifeguard. The sand is incredibly clean and smooth, and allows for easy walking near the water. The incline from the parking lot to the beach is minimal (a welcome relief after visiting Race Point in Provincetown!) The surf is strong but there are shallow areas and sandbars that cater to younger or weaker swimmers/waders. The tide comes in towards you as usual, but there is also a current that comes in to the right, so the two actually end up colliding with each other. The water is clean, beach is expansive, and is overall a very picturesq...

A settlement began at Long Point in 1818, reaching its peak in the 1850s when about 200 people lived there. As Provincetown became a major fishing port, it was decided a lighthouse at Long Point would greatly aid mariners entering the town's harbor. The first Long Point Light (U.S. Coast Guard photo) The first lighthouse was completed in 1826. It consisted of a lantern on top of the keeper's house, with a fixed light exhibited 35 feet above mean high water, visible for 13 nautical miles. The first keeper was Charles Derby.
