The Island View Casino is a casino and hotel located in Gulfport, Mississippi.
The Island View is the successor to the Copa Casino, which was first located on a docked cruise ship and then a barge-based building at the Mississippi State Docks, across U.S. Highway 90 (Beach Blvd.) from the current location. The Copa and its neighbor, Grand Casino Gulfport, were both destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. When Grand Casino's parent Harrah's Entertainment decided not to rebuild, it sold the Grand site to Copa owners Rick Carter and Terry Green. When Mississippi legislators changed casino laws to permit new casinos to be built on dry land, the duo used the Grand's former hotel as a temporary casino for Phase I of their redevelopment. Currently the Island View Casino is the only casino left in Gulfport after the destruction of Hurricane Katrina.
The new facility (Phase I) opened on September 18, 2006, with 1,033 video poker and slot machines and 15 table games, a 350 seat Island View buffet, C&G Grille (a 24-hour restaurant) and a 562-room hotel.
On June 24, 2007, Emeril’s Gulf Coast Fish House fine-dining restaurant opened on the property. The casino added a new multi-level parking garage, along with other property improvements.
Phase II was completed on May 14, 2007 and added more gaming space as well as Emeril's Gulf Coast Fish House.
On May 1st, 2008 Island View Casino opened a 9 table, 24 hour poker room.
Further developments are expected including what is left of the Grand Casino's property located on the beach across from the Island View Casino.

The town has a reputation as an "arts community." Its historic and secluded downtown area, with streets lined by Live Oak trees, is home to several art galleries and shops plying shiny wares new and old alike. It is also home to a number of ethnic restaurants relatively uncommon in surrounding communities, such as Mediterraneo, Phoenicia Gourmet, and Shady's Global Grille on Government street.

Ocean Springs was severely damaged on August 29, 2005, by Hurricane Katrina, which smashed many buildings along the shoreline, including the Ocean Springs Yacht Club, and the historic wooden Fort Maurepas, and gutted or flooded other buildings. Katrina's 25 ft (7.6 m) storm surge also destroyed the Biloxi Bay Bridge, which connected Biloxi to Ocean Springs.[

Beauvoir-Jefferson Davis National Library
Biloxi MS
~4.81 miles from D'iberville city center
Hotels Close to Beauvoir-Jefferson Davis National Library
Beauvoir was the last home of Jefferson Davis and it was the site of his retirement.
The house was built by James Brown, a wealthy plantation owner from Madison County, Mississippi. The house was started in late 1848 and was completed in 1852. The house was built as a summer home for his wife and his (eventually 13) children. It was then called Orange Grove, due to the Satsuma Oranges being grown on the property. Mr. Brown died in 1866 and his widow continued to own the property until 1873 when she was forced to sell the property at public auction to pay and satisfy the taxes due on her husband's estate. Frank Johnson, a land speculator purchased the house for taxes and then sold the house and property three months later.
Sarah Dorsey was the next owner of the property and when she first looked out over the Mississippi Sound from the front porch of the house, she said "Oh my, what a beautiful view - that's what I am going to call this property: Beauvoir! (Which is French for beautiful view or beautiful to look at). From that point on - the property was known as Beauvoir.
In 1877, Jefferson Davis was looking for a quiet retreat to write his books and papers. While inspecting property on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, he paid a courtesy call on Mrs. Dorsey (a family friend). He told her of his plans to try to find a place to write his books and papers. She encouraged him to stay at Beauvoir in one of the two pavilions in from of Beauvoir House to write his books. He agreed to do so only if he paid $50.00 a month for room and board. After two years, he fell in love with the property and he wanted to buy it. She in turn wanted to sell it to him, so they agreed upon a selling price of $5,500.00 dollars to be paid in three payments. He made the first payment and six months later, Mrs. Dorsey died. At that time he found out he was her sole heir and he eventually inherited the house along with other property.
Jefferson Davis died in 1889. His daughter, Winnie then inherited the property and when she died in 1898, Varina, Jefferson Davis' widow inherited the property. Mrs. Davis sold the property to the Mississippi Division of the Sons of Confederate Veterans with two stipulations. The first was that the property be used for a Confederate Veterans Home for the veterans and or their widows at no charge to them and that was done from 1903 until 1957 when the last three widows were transferred to a private nursing home in Greenwood, Mississippi, when it was no longer practical to keep them at the site. The second stipulation for the sale of the property was that it be used as a memorial to Jefferson Davis and the Confederate Soldier; and that has been done from 1903 until the present time.

The Mississippi Coast Coliseum and Convention Center offers over 400000 square feet of meetings space.
The Mississippi Coast Coliseum is a 9,150-seat multi-purpose arena in Biloxi, Mississippi. It was built in 1977. It hosted WCW Beach Blast 1993 and the Sun Belt Conference men’s basketball tournament in 1992 and 1993. The Metro Conference (now Conference USA) men's basketball tournaments were contested here in 1990 and 1994.
It was previously home to the Mississippi Sea Wolves (ECHL) ice hockey team. Due to damages to the arena by heavy flooding and winds, from Hurricane Katrina in August 2005, the Mississippi Sea Wolves cancelled their 2005-2006 and 2006-2007 seasons. Repairs are now virtually complete, and the Sea Wolves returned on the ice on October 27, 2007. On March 30, 2009, the Sea Wolves announced they had suspended operations once again. However, the Coliseum will not be without ice hockey entirely, as the Mississippi Surge has announced its membership in the Southern Professional Hockey League and will play at the Coliseum for the 2009-10 season.
It was home to the Gulf Coast Bandits, a basketball team that played in the WBA. The Gulf Coast Bandits cancelled their 2006 season for the same reasons as the Sea Wolves and didn't return in 2007. The Coliseum also hosted the Mississippi Coast Gamblers of the United States Basketball League in 1994.
The Mississippi Firedogs of the National Indoor Football League also played at the arena, folding in 2003.
It also holds an annual rock festival, known to the locals as THE CPR FEST. It is presented by the local radio station 97.9 WCPR-FM. It consists of various popular rock artists. From 1996 - 2005, the event was held outside, on the coliseum grounds. In 2006 the event was the first to be held inside the Coliseum. Such bands as Three Days Grace, Hinder, & Staind have performed at the event. In 2007, Daughtry, Saliva, and Puddle of Mudd performed. http://www.mscoastcoliseum.com

he Lynn Meadows Discovery Center expands a child’s world by encouraging shared learning experiences to enrich the minds and hearts of children and adults through interactive and entertaining exhibitions and programs.
Through activities designed to simulate the real world of South Mississippi, children have the opportunity to learn about the past and the present; it is with a better understanding of themselves and their community that children can grow to be responsible, global citizens.
History
Today, more than 400 children’s museums throughout the United States break the rules of traditional museums encouraging visitors to touch, talk, have fun and learn. In a children’s museum, the audience rather than the objects are key. The exhibits are catalysts for questions, exploration and discovery and the entire experience is a playground for the mind. The Lynn Meadows Discovery Center is the first children’s museum in Mississippi.
From its inception, The Lynn Meadows Discovery Center has been a community project. With initial funding in 1991 from Gulfport Junior Auxiliary, co-founders Rose Alman and Carole Lynn Meadows have led the team to make the dream a reality with the opening of the museum in May, 1998. The museum name honors the memory of Lynn Meadows, Carole Lynn and Joe Meadows' daughter, who died tragically in a car accident in 1984 while a student at Ole Miss. Located in the renovated Mississippi City Elementary School, constructed in 1915 and an architectural exhibition itself, Lynn Meadows Discovery Center offers 15,000 square feet of indoor exhibit space, six acres of outdoor play space including a tree house village, a woodsy cabin on a stream and meeting rooms for workshops as well as camps and birthday parties.
On August 29, 2005, Hurricane Katrina devastated the MS Gulf Coast resulting in the “worst natural disaster in US history”. The Lynn Meadows Discovery Center stood defiantly among the old live oaks, but the storm surge reduced the entire first floor of exhibitions, Artist Studio and staff office to rubble. The Education Building was destroyed, the pavilion was left a shell and the gymnasium multi purpose spaces were flooded.
The first floor exhibits have been replaced, the office refurbished and repaired and the main museum building reopened on June 6, 2006. The Education Building was demolished and the Pavilion has been renovated and provides three multi purpose rooms. Phases II and III of the building project, with a $3 million budget, was completed with the opening of the WINGS Performing Arts and Education Center on April 23, 2009. Phase IV of the construction will include renovation of the gym into a performing arts center for youth.
