Danforth Avenue is a major east-west artery in east Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The road is colloquially referred to by locals as The Danforth.
The road was named for contractor Asa Danforth, who built Queen Street and Kingston Road, and started work in 1799. It was officially built by The Don and Danforth Plank Road Company in 1851 to Broadview Avenue, as well as connecting to Queen Street East and Kingston Road.
On Christmas Eve 2001, the Woodbine Building Supply fire occurred. The hardware store was located at the intersection of Danforth and Woodbine. It was one of the biggest fires in Toronto's history, as 170 firefighters were required to bring the six-alarm blaze under control. The building was less than 50 metres (160 ft) from residences in the neighborhood and more than fifty families had to evacuate their homes on Christmas morning. One person was killed and another was severely disfigured. Police and insurance quickly suspected arson and several people have since been convicted.

Because of the large deer and other wildlife population, pets should stay on trails and avoid other animals fecal matter because of parasites, notably mange. Hikers should also come with insect repellent in the summer, as deer flies, ticks, and mosquitoes are common. Garter Snakes can also be seen basking on the hot dirt paths in spring and summer. Hikers are advised to be respectful to the tranquility of the park and it's wildlife, as well as to stay on the marked trails and clean up after themselves.
Hunting, camping, and fires are all illegal inside the park. It should also be noted that some of the trail markers have been vandalized or removed. Some trails are closed for regrowth, safe detours are always provided. It is suggested that new visitors to the park obtain one of the free maps in the parking area. Visitors should also be aware of the time of day they are entering as the thick woods become dark long before sunset. All motorized vehicles are prohibited. Bikers are advised to make themselves known to hikers on trails in advance and show proper etiquette. Likewise Horseback Riders are required to keep their horses under control at all times.

Hotels Close to Framingham Town Common
Framingham is a town in Middlesex County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 66,910 at the 2000 census.
Framingham, sited on the ancient trail known as the Old Connecticut Path, was first settled when John Stone settled on the west bank of the Sudbury River in 1647. In 1660, Judge Thomas Danforth, of the Salem Witch Trials fame, an official of the Bay Colony, formerly of Framlingham, Suffolk, England received a grant of land at "Danforth's Farms" and began to accumulate over 15,000 acres (61 km2). He strenuously resisted petitions for incorporation of the town, which was officially incorporated in 1700, following his death the previous year. Why the "L" was dropped for the new town's name is not known. The first church was organized in 1701, the first teacher was hired in 1706, and the first permanent schoolhouse in 1716.

Edgell Library
Maynard MA
~5.68 miles from Sudbury city center
Hotels Close to Edgell Library
The Edgell Memorial Library, built to commemorate the valor of Civil War soldiers, was the town of Framingham’s first free-standing public library and remains a testament to the spirit of civic engagement and public service which built it. The Library is a cultural pillar of the community, which rallied to build it in 1872 and once again to save it from demolition in 1963. The Edgell Memorial Library was awarded a Partners in Preservation grant of $100,000 that will go toward restoring the Library’s windows and to install much needed storm windows.
What is the historical significance of this site?
The Edgell Memorial Library, one of the few remaining Victorian Gothic buildings in the area, anchors the Centre Common in Framingham. A monument to Civil War Soldiers, built in 1872 by local people using local materials, it is a testament to the determination of the community. When demolition was threatened in 1963 by the building of a new library, concerned citizens and the Framingham Historical Society rallied to save their beloved Library.
What is the current and proposed use of the site?
The Edgell Memorial Library is currently used as a cultural community center by the Framingham History Center with monthly programming, local exhibits, a museum shop, storage and office space. The entire building is undergoing restoration which is planned to be finished by April 2011. This project will return one of Framingham’s most important historic and cultural landmarks to its original splendor, drawing families and residents to the center of Framingham and its history.

Old Village Hall

Framingham's Historic Village Hall
The Village Hall was constructed in 1834 to the designs of Solomon Willard, designer of the Bunker Hill Monument, and Dexter Hemenway as the Town's second town hall. Built by Dexter Esty, it contained offices, school rooms, the first public library space and meeting space. The building is on the National Register of Historic Places and now serves as a rental venue for meetings and private functions.
By 1891, town functions had outgrown the space. South Framingham had become the business center and the last town meeting was held in the building. A decade later, the Framingham Improvement Association (FIA) was formed and designated to maintain and manage the building. Charles M. Baker, a local architect, carried out a "restoration" project which appears to have significantly reorganized the building, with a new entrance in a new portico facing the Centre Common to the north, a sweeping double staircase and renovations to the upper meeting room. A handsome terrace with granite balustrade with a Beaux Arts "thermum" motif was constructed between the Village Hall and the Common in 1913. In 1916-17, the ceiling in the ballroom was removed to "to expose the Old Oak Trusses" and new stage and dressing rooms were added. A fire damaged the roof and walls in 1920, and in 1934, Charles Baker donated plans and supervision of the repair work.
The Village Hall today is an unusual mix of historic features and later additions. The exterior features the original freestanding porticoes with three bays of Doric columns on the east and west sides. A matching portico, constructed in 12913, is centered on the north side, facing the Common. The door with transom leads into the entrance lobby and double stairs to the upper level. The south side along Oak St. is seven bays wide. Windows throughout have six-over-six double hung sash with shutters.
The interior also contains details that appear to date from various periods. While the Baker Room and stairways appear to include some mid-19th century elements, the main staircase seems to have been installed in the early 20th century. The decision to expose the structure in the auditorium is contrary to what would have been accepted practice in the 19th century, when a finished ceiling would have been more typical.
