Four women in our group - stayed one night prior to a cruise in May 2013. Part of our cruise package included credit for a hotel using priceline's quick deals - which meant we had no idea which hotel we would be getting until the reservation was complete. I did read reviews once I knew we were staying here - so was somewhat concerned about the walk to nearby stores and criticism of the shuttle service. Our package allowed the standard room with a king bed.
We had no problems at all and had a wonderful stay (now of course you need to remember that May is a slow time for cruising - so high season travel volume may be different). In May the price on the website was @ 129 for king and 149 for 2 queen rooms - seemed quite reasonable - but of course most places are more expensive at the high season for cruising-so not sure what cost would have been in January (when I paid @ 200 for a different hotel).
Our shuttle from the airport to hotel arrived @ 15 minutes after we called the front desk. We were able to check in early (1:30 pm) and one room was upgraded for free to the 2 queen bed room (I am a choice member).
The rooms are large - sleeping area with a TV and then on the other side of a divider wall - a couch and another TV. Room also includes a small fridge, microwave, and coffeepot. Decor is modern - similar to a "W" hotel. Beds very comfy. Everything was clean and new looking. We were on the second floor overlooking the pool - a great location. Other reviews mention bad curtains and too much light streaming in - apparently you just need to close the correct part of the curtain - we had no problems at all.
We did walk over to the nearby shopping center to purchase wine for the cruise. Other reviews gave me the impression it would be dangerous crossing the busy highway - but it was not a problem at all - you just need to use the parts of the intersection where the stop lights/crossing signals are located. It was a fairly long walk - probably about 15 minutes to the beginning of the mall. Its an outdoor mall and is quite large - we probably spent another 15 minutes walking to the far end to get to the restaurant where we ate an early dinner. Then went in search of wine. We headed for the "liquor store", but found they did not sell wine or beer. They sent us next door to BJs - a discount store that requires a membership. Fortunately they allowed us purchase wine even tho we were not members - we just had to check out at the customer service desk. There is a drug store with a small wine selection and the gas station/convenience store at the beginning of this mall area also sells wine.
If you don't want to walk that far - there is a restaurant and small strip mall just 2 blocks away. The front desk staff provided us with directions for the different choices.
We spent several hours relaxing in the outdoor pool/hot tub area - again - clean and plenty of chairs and tables. Chatted with other guests who drove from another part of Florida - they really like the ability to park their car here during the cruise.
We did not eat breakfast (10 dollar charge for the buffet) since we planned to get on the cruise ship and eat an early lunch.
The cruise port shuttle is scheduled every hour. We chose the earliest time - 10 am and had a smooth ride - arriving @ 10:30.
Would not hesitate to check this hotel's price and availability for future cruises leaving from Ft. Lauderdale. « less

This is the third time we have chosen to stay here before a cruise vacation. Staff are excellent, the food is tasty and the service is great. The room is very spacious with two queen beds and a pull out sofa. It has a microwave as well as a small bar fridge. The bathroom is large and exceptionally clean. The kids enjoyed the pool and we made use of the exercise room.
If you are taking the shuttle to the cruise ships do not get discouraged by the crowd and/or wait. Their shuttle is prompt and efficient. Park and cruise package is much better value than parking at the port. « less

Our family of 5 adults stayed at Cambria Suites from April 25-27 before we got on our cruise. The hotel was very nice, modern and well taken care of and very clean. The staff was extremely friendly and Kimy went out of her way to make us feel welcomed and was extremely helpful (actually above and beyond what was expected). The location is great, the pool and fitness area we very nice and the equipment new and in good shape.
We stayed on points so the price was great for us but I would gladly pay to stay in such a nice hotel. We will stay there again, no problem. « less

By the time we arrived at Cambria Suites, we had been traveling for over 24 hours. We were told that there was a regular shuttle from the airport, but after waiting for over half an hour, and watching shuttles for other hotels pass by three or four times each, we decided to call the hotel and they did send one eventually. Our suite was excellent: clean, comfortable, and equipped with a delightfully excessive two televisions. That night I had quite possibly one of the top ten greatest showers of my life. Actually, now that I think about it, the bathroom was pretty immaculate in general.
That said: despite the fact that the room was great, the hotel has a glaring downside, and that is the fact that it is incredibly isolated. If you do not have a car, there is very little you can do if you wanted to see, do or eat anything outside the hotel grounds. If we weren't just staying for a night, I would consider it a serious issue, but it is close to both the airport and Port Everglades, so if you just need a quick place to crash while en route to either of these places, Cambria Suites is a pretty good place to do it. There is free wifi, and a continental breakfast, which costs $10 per person, The breakfast is very much run-of-the-mill, but, given the lack of options in the area, you should be prepared to have those tenners ready.
In the end, I suppose the Cambria experience is dependent on what you're using it for. If I were staying for more than one night, I doubt this would be a great choice. But, again, for the one night we were there, it was on the whole enjoyable. « less
