"Dear Bidyut Tamuly 3-3,
This is an urgent message regarding your reservation with the Crowne Plaza Hotel Dallas Downtown (40414) for 5/3/2013. Unfortunately the hotel is unable to accept your reservation for your upcoming stay. Due to these unforeseen circumstances, we would like to offer you comparable alternate accommodations.
Your reservation has not been cancelled, but due to a limited amount of availability it is very important that we speak with you as soon as possible............."
Just imagine getting the above just before you are ready to fly to US from India. I leave it to our travelers to decide!!
On a separate note, Hyatt at Reunion helped me to get a room in their hotel. I visited Crowne Plaza hotel for a meeting with a business associate and was very happy that I was not staying there. « less

Our room is not that big but the beds and pillows are really comfortable. I like the fact that I had to use my room key to get to my room, it made me feel safe. I would have enjoyed the pool more if it had not been so darn cold, a hot tub would have been nice as well. The front desk staff are very friendly and helpful. The bathroom in our room was very small, you have to get all the way in the bathroom to shut the door. The shower has great water pressure and we love the lighted vanity mirror. The best part about our hotel, location, location, location. We could walk to the Dallas Aquarium and quite a few other attractions. « less

unfortunately, the decision to stay in this hotel turned out to be horrific. I was attending a conference in May 2013 at the convention center and because hotels tend to get sold out early, we booked in October 2012, paid upfront and thought we were set. I was coming from India. 4 days before I was due to arrive, the hotel decided they didn't want us and we received an email saying they would NO longer accept our reservation. Of course we panicked simply because there were no other hotels available in downtown Dallas. After calling and pleading to let us stay, they refused and while they offered to refund our money, thats not what we wanted. we just wanted a place to stay - they were unhelpful, and I am pretty sure they lied about the reason for the cancellation (saying that they were undergoing renovations). I visited the hotel for a meeting during the convention and there was no sign of renovation. They just wanted to get other guests in who were willing to pay more and realised that we weren't worthy to stay in their hotel. All in all, a horrific experience to deal with them. Beware when you book the Crowne Plaza - they might decide they dont want you at the last minute! « less

I stayed at this hotel for five nights for a conference recently. The hotel was full of conference attendees. The check in was smooth and the staff friendly. The decor is very dark and depressing. The floor I was on smelled strongly of nail polish remover. I could almost feel my brain cells dying off every time I walked to and from the elevator! The room was slightly better, although again, very dark and musty smelling. The carpets appeared to have been updated in the room, but not the hallways. The bath room was tiny, and the tub/shower surround was not tile. It looked like regular wall board. It was badly stained. We tried to scrape it with a credit card. The good news is that it wasn't gunk, just stained. It was pretty disgusting. The restaurant continued the theme of 1970s dark and depressing, with dark velvet draperies. The service was friendly, and the food was pretty decent. Nothing to write home about, but certainly adequate for the business of eating while traveling on business. A comparison of the room prices a week before and after the conference showed a huge mark up for the conference period, but I suppose that's what happens when the hotels know that 10000+ people are coming to town. Given the price we had to pay though, I certainly would warn others away. « less
