Easy to find and right in the heart of downtown Auckland, the Mercure is our hotel of choice for weekends in the city. It is close to the Britomart complex with plenty of places to eat only a short walk away.
Drive up to the entrance, hand over your car keys and they will park your car and bring it back whenever you want it, or if you are coming from the airport by bus you will have but a short walk from the nearest stop. « less

The moment we arrived we were greeted by a friendly staff member who arranged our car valet service. We checked in and immediately they said they had upgraded us to another room on the top floor. We had only been in our room for five minutes when the staff member who parked our car arrived handing my husband his sunglasses which he leaves in the car. We thought that was very thoughtful and efficient as they could have been stolen from the car otherwise. Our room was very spacious, we had two queensize beds, nice bathroom with a good shower over the bath. We were meeting friends for dinner on the waterfront and all we had to do was walk out the main entrance on Custom Street, turn left and there we were. A very central hotel close to restaurants, shops and entertainment at a very reasonable price. Must remember not to have breakfast here though as the full breakfast was not that appetising. In fact all I had was a small piece of bacon, a hash brown and a croissant . The only eggs were scrambled and they had the consistency of sloppy porridge. Would be much better to eat breakfast somewhere on the viaduct. When time came to check out, the staff members we dealt with were very efficient and friendly. I would not hesitate to stay here again in the future. « less

The heating/cooling fan made a noise all night that made sleep difficult. This was despite the fact that it was not turned on and we checked it to make sure it was definitly off. We are now into the 4th business day after our stay and you have still not authorised the return of the $100 surity deposit you took. We did not use anything from the room. Come on in this day and age this is rubbish. Get with the program, as this will definitly influence where I stay next time as I travel to Auckalnd frequently on business & pleasure. « less

The Good - Location The Mecure Auckland is situated in a great location. Close to Queen St, Bus and Ferry Terminals. Parking is expensive at the hotel, but you can park for a fraction of the price 5 mins walk away in the Downtown carpark. The onsite restaurant is expensive, but you have a great selection of food outlets close by. Try Sals Pizza or Mexicali. The room itself was spacious and tidy. Everything worked ok and the bathroom was in keeping with the hotels age.
The Bad - Noisy After staying here previously in Nov 2012 on a lower floor and despite being a heavy sleeper, I was still woken a number of times during the night by traffic. With this in mind, I asked at check-in for a room on a higher floor to help cut down the noise. I was given a room on the 9th floor, but despite having double glazing I didn't really find much difference between this stay and the room on a lower floor. Both rooms had windows towards Custom St, so if noise is a problem, try asking for a room on the other side.
The Ugly - Bed Bugs While the room appeared clean, it turns out they had a bed bug problem in this room. This was my first experience with bed bugs and I hope my last. I appreciate they must be hard to get rid off once a hotel has them, but the amount of bites I ended up with left me with the impression they would have been hard to miss by the maids. I called the hotel a week after my stay to let them know about this problem with the room. The duty manager (Nicola) apologised and said they would send someone up to check on the room right away and get back to me. I'm still waiting to hear back from them....
I've stayed at many of the Accor chain of hotels, both in NZ and around the world. Up until this stay, I've never been disappointed. However, I'd recommend Accor remove the Mecure brand and switch it to the budget Formule 1 brand. Oh, and I'd suggest you book elsewhere. « less

For location when staying in Auckland you couldnt stay at a better hotel than the Mecure. From the time when we checked in and during our whole stay, eg. service at the restaraunt, room service, right to when we were leaving the lady servicing the rooms who wished me a Happy Mothers day. I found the staff went out of their way to make our stay a pleasureable one. We will be back when visiting Auckland. « less

Testimonials: Why use Hotel Planner?
"By the way, I was very pleased with your site's service! It turned out that our group got a better room price reservation at a comparable hotel to the one we were considering. Since our small jazz band doesn't really have any budget to speak of, price was an important consideration and thanks to your service we were able to save money without sacrificing on the quality and amenities of the hotel. Thanks again! We'll be using you again, I'm sure, for future trips." D.R. - Auburn, WA
"I appreciated your service -- our rates were well below what we paid at a Holiday Inn 6 years ago! (and NOTHING is cheaper than six years ago!!) Again thanks, and I will certainly recommend your website to others!" M.L. - Waverly, IA
