When to Visit Auckland, New Zealand

As a Southern Hemisphere city, Auckland's summer lasts from November through February, while winter lasts from June to August. Summer is the peak tourist season in Auckland, and you'll typically encounter temperatures in the low 70s and large crowds from early November through late March. Winter is the low season, with mild temperatures in the 50s, plenty of rain, and smaller crowds. For pleasant weather and moderate crowds, plan your trip during the spring or fall.

To see Auckland at its most festive, book your trip during one of its many special events. In late January and early February, the Auckland Seafood Festival kicks off the new Year with the island nation's best seafood, live music, and demonstrations by celebrity chefs. Celebrate the Chinese New Year at the Auckland Lantern Festival in February, a colorful event with hundreds of lanterns, cultural events, and fireworks.

In March, the Auckland Arts Festival shows off the city's creative talent with art installations and performances. In July, the New Zealand International Film Festival welcomes filmmakers, actors, and film buffs for screenings, discussions, and parties. The Auckland on Water Boat Show celebrates summer with an expansive boat showroom, boating seminars, and marine technology demonstrations.

"Great public transport"
Score 4.0 / 5

The public transport to the Mt Smart stadium for the Bruce Springsteen concert was great. Timely, good capacity (and free for concert goers which was a + as well). At the end of the evening the process worked well to get people back to the station and on to trains. We kept walking at all times and an easy ride back to the hotel. Really good experience!
